The DVD drive is secured to the laptop by two screws.
Remove two screws and slide the DVD drive out of the notebook base.

I had the same problem with the Satellite P15 S420. Following Psybheng's lead I fooled with the screws on the bottom and found that the disk drive is held in by one screw. With the unit upside down and the disk drive at your stomach, you will see a screw slightly to the left that goes into the 'frame'. Remove it and remove the drive!
