Hi Markk thanks for helping but if you could steer me to a more detailed diagram ,because the problem is knowing where each connector goes. for example

power sw blue and white wire

    h.d.d led red and white

    power led + green

    power led - white

reset sw blue and white and so on, i have also the usb wires to connect the audio and mic wires , i understand the area they go but not the proper pin they actually attach to, im sorry if im not explaining this to well. i hope this makes sense. thank you again for your time.

Below is a link to the owner's manual for the Dell 2400. On page 55 there is a diagram of the motherboard, and a description of each of the pins. I hope this helps.

    USB pinout signals
USB is a serial bus. It uses 4 shielded wires: two for power (+5v & GND) and two for differential data signals (labelled as D+ and D- in pinout). NRZI (Non Return to Zero Invert) encoding scheme used to send data with a sync field to synchronise the host and receiver clocks. In USB data cable Data+ and Data- signals are transmitted on a twisted pair. No termination needed. Half-duplex differential signaling helps to combat the effects of electromagnetic noise on longer lines. Contrary to popular belief, D+ and D- operate together; they are not separate simplex connections.

I have a Dell Dimension 8300 P4 3.0. We have been having problems so now we have come to the conclusion that it is the motherboard. A friend gave me a Core Dou 2 motherboard, but it doesn't fit in my case....

First off, stick to warranty service if you have the option.

While most cases are modular and will accept boards of many standard sizes, Dell cases are made specifically for that model of Dell and are often unusable for other size boards.

Your question doesn't make it clear if the board is too big for the case, or the case is too big for the board. If the board is too big, you need a new case. If you are looking to save money, I recommend geeks.com .

You're venturing into the realm of building an entire new computer - I hope youre ready.

Many of the components from your old dell won't work with a Core1 Duo board. Any of the expansion cards and drives probably will, but you'll need new memory, a processor, a heatsink and fan for the processor, case fans, a new case, and probably a bigger power supply.

If you aren't comfortable with thoroughly educating yourself and investing time and money into building a new computer, you're better off buying a new Dell or other premade computer. If you're brave, look at tomshardware.com for info.

Good luck!

Ethernet driver needed

The beauty of Dell is you can use the service tag to find exact configurations. Since I didn't have that I did find 2400 series drivers at http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_CEL_2400&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=

This may give you the items you need, Dload to a jump drive and then move to the PC and allow PC to extract them then follow the add hardware wizard or update driver from hardware listing. The drivers may also include their own setup file.

Fried mobo with new psu?

Yes, it sounds like the motherboard from the Dell machine is now ready for the recycle yard. My son had an old Dell that the motherboard failed, and one by one, all add on cards, and eventually the RAM stopped working. Those old Dell systems can only keep going for so long, and besides, why hang on to it? Get a new PC, they are low priced now, and you get such a faster, smoother running PC.

My motherboard wont fit into any case ><

all motherboards have a size known as "form factor"

*********** baord is Micro ATX,

youll have to buy a case that can fit that motherboard in or buy another motherboard that will fit in your case, youll have to find out your dell model number to find the form factor, easiest way would be search your old motherboard number

ATX Power Supply Question

Most new power supplies have a twenty pin Molex connector and a 4 pin Molex connector. If you look closely at the connectors you will see that they go together a certain way. It can be very hard to tell. Take a close look at the shapes of each terminal. Match them up exactly.

Dear, friend

When connecting IDE devices in your computer, there are a few rules you need to know about.
First, Master and Slave devices are different for the 80-wire cables and the 40-wire cables.
Inside your computer, you generally have two (2) IDE hard drive controller connections. They look this this 99% of the time:

[ The smaller one on the very top is a floppy drive controller connection )

Typacally with a dell they have a prepritary mobo plate that slids into the case but if the mobo is directly screwed to the case and you can take the mobo connector panel off the case then yes you can. If the mobo is on the plate then more than likely no unless ya get the same mobo from ebay or the like :-(
