Question about Garmin Nuvi 660 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

I dropped my Nuvi in a creek...

I said to myself, okay let's clean it out.  I followed the instructions for opening it.  I got the first torx screws out, popped out the antenna box, unscrewed the next two screws (the long ones) but now I am stuck because I don't know how to pry it open without mangling the case with my screwdriver.
Gahh, I could probably get credit card insurance to cover this but I'd rather not go through that hassle...

I forgot to say.  The problem is it got wet!!  I shook a bunch of water out and it worked okay for a few mins.  I shook some more and eventually the screen started acting crazy and loosing the image.  Now it won't boot completely, though it does show "Pre-boot" or something like that.  And it shows the "Charging" graphics when I plug it in.

    Please help!

It sounds like the unit is pooched. Either contact your CC insurance to see what they can do, or else send it back to Garmin and see what they say about repairing it.

I have a DC759KA cordless drill. I'm trying to fix it myself, but can't get the nose apart. I've opened it to the widest mouth available, and I'm trying to open what seems to be an allen-nut connection...

The screw is a reverse thread torx t20 head. One you have the torx t20 screw driver from a hardware or tool store you need to turn it to the right to loosen the screw.

I am trying to replace the LCD Touch Screen Digitizer on my Garmin Nuvi 205. How do I open the thing? I do not see and screws etc.

The two No. 5 Torx screws are under the label. Just peel both sides away a little and you can access these screws. Then pry open carefully with plastic spatula or something thin made from relatively soft plastic material. Good luck!

What is the torx size to remove the screws in the

The torx screws are only the first part of a delicate procedure. Once the screws are removed it still requires special tools etc to open the unit without damaging it. Once it is open there are very small and extremely fragile connectors that are easily destroyed if you try to disconnect them the wrong way. If there is a problem with your unit I highly recommend not trying to fix it yourself, it is well worth the $ to have it done by an expert. There are several post-warranty repair companies out there but the only one I recommend is

I have a broken digitizer in my nuvi 255w. I found a place to buy one, and have a friend who replaces these in cell phones. Does anyone know if there's a trick to opening the housing? Or just pry open...

on the 255w there are 2 hidden torx screws under the serial # sticker on the bottom..use a hair drier and twizzers to pull it back on each end of the sticker so you dont ruin it. remove the screws and carefully split the case(i use my finger nail)

Battery replace

Flip the unit over so it is resting on th screen with the on switch at the top you will see the reset and S/N tag. Pull this plastic tag off with twezzers or a knife. This will expose 2 torx screws size T-5. After removing the torx screws, right under the S/N plate sticker is a mount hole, locate this then pry apart with screw driver, be careful prying apart as there is a flex cable taped down to your pcb board. Remove the flex cable by opening the latch for it, there are 2 latches one small and one large and the cables are taped to the pcb board. Remove the speaker jack wire with tweezers.Next with a small jewlers screwdriver remove 3 phillips screws size ph00 from pcb board. Lift the pcb board out and disconnect the battery wire underneath. Next remove battery, it is stuck down with double sided tape and takes quite a bit of force to remove. It is a Garmin LI-ion 3.7v, 1.25 AH battery.

How do I replace the battery in my Garmin Nuvi 350 ?

There are two hidden (torx T5) screws underneath where the antenna pivot. You will have to remove the antenna first in order to get to these two torx screws. Then you can use one of those plastic case opener (iPod case opener work great).

Do not try prying the unit apart until you have removed the antenna and the two hidden torx screws, otherwise you will destroy your Nuvi.
