Red Halo Hitachi 53FDX20B (2002) model year

Hello I saw your post helping someone else with the red halo issue. It must be my convergance board. Nothing has let the magic smoke out that I can see. So I guess I need these parts stk392-110 Where do you buy them and what is the electronics term used to identifiey these components. They look like huge transistors....

Had to put wrong tv model in below to send message, my tv is the one in the subject line...

Thanks Denis

You can get the replacement Convergence ICs at this website I am posting. Just order the same STK numbers that are on your Convergence ICs. They provide instalation instructions and free on line tech support with every purchase. Heres the link.

Double picture (like a red halo)

First, it you have an orignal Hitachi remove go into the customer menu and look for convergence--if the set will not adjust (red or blue) in some direction--you have a bad Convergence chip--this set uses two--check the model number and confirm it to me. Both chips and any resistors around them that are bad need to be found and replaced--you can buy both of the chips on Ebay for less than 13 dollars!

Usually, just both chips need to be replaced and the set adjusted-most shops will charge 300-400 for this kind of repair--I have done hundreds of them here for 200-250 total cost. If you cannot do the repair look in your area for someone who can--any good tech can do this repair in your home in about one hour--if a shop says it has to "go to the shop" keep looking.

Now is the slow time of year for TV repair shops so look around-200-250 is a good investment and you cannot replace the set for this amount--this is about the only problem this set ever has!

If you have questions or need help--reply to this post here.

I do this here for free so if this helped you take a minute and give me a vote here.

Red and blue convergence

Your convergence ic’s have failed, this is a common problem with most all projection tv’s, the repair is involved and requires electronic knowledge, if you want more information about your set post back the model and brand of tv this is.

Red color halo/shadowing

can you post a pic of your screen to show the shadowing, as red usually isnt affected with coolant contamination it may be a convergence issue. A pic would help me be better able to help diagnose the problem.

sounds like you are having a convergence fail. there are 2 Convergence amps in the tv should be on the largest heat-sink inside(right hand side looking from back) replace with stk392-110 and any open or burnt resistors. check for any cracked solder and mark any cables you unplug. if you do that work and need to align the convergence at all let me know and ill walk you through those steps

Red colored halo at bottom corners of screen

Movement of any TV can result in a problem caused by bad
solder connections. In your case, the red convergence IC......
Found on a circuit board, mounted on large heatsinks........
Part # STK392-040.....Change both for prevent maintenance.
Do not use generics - I use OEM or better = Sam,Pan,Hitachi.
After repair,recheck alignment................T.

Hitachi rear projection

without knowing the model number, i can only give you some ideas on what to check.

If the tv was working fine, and started experiencing the problem after being moved, check your focus. you may or may not have an electronic focus pot on the rear of the tv, and you should have a manual focus located on the lens assembly, loosen the wingnut and rotate the lens to focus it.

also check the crt coolant level, if it has a bubble in it, it may be causing the red halo effect.

if the red is to the top or side of the characters and not completely surrounding them, it may be a convergence issue, check the manual for convergence procedures, if it does not have them, your best bet would be to take it to a service tech.
