usually this happens when the usb controller board inside the external HDD is faulty if you are lucky this board can be replaced with a similar one then you can get your data back
what OS ?
did u load the driver for the device ?
check if ur USB port is working ? by connecting some other USB device
all these errors happen due to the IRQs clashing with the resources...
ensure that all devices in device manager dont have IRQ clash...check each item in device manager and check properties and check if there is any clash...for IRQs
You can open the case, and access the harddrive inside it. I found there are videos explaining the process on youtube. You can also find some info on Google. You'd then need either a USB SATA adapter, or a desktop computer with a SATA port that's not already occupied. Search for:
western digital passport open case
Okay this is a internal SATA drive so what you can do is take it out of its failing case and put it into your computer or buy a new enclosure for it. I have a Mybook TB drive and my works great with no problems. But you can take this to WD western digital as its warrentied foe 3 full years!!
did you find an answer to your question? I am currently having the same problem. The USB LED flashes and takes a minute to scan, followed by a pop up on the tv saying unable to recognize hard drive. help?
1-Shut down you pc .2-unplug the power cord.3-open the case .4-Find the usb wires trac them back to the board. 5-mark were the wires go with a marker.6-plug new usb port wires in.7-put the case back on pc.8-plug power cord in.9-turn on pc.10-plug your usb device in.
Lots of posts on this on other boards -- I was looking for output voltage of AC adapters as they are not labeled WD and had mixed multiples from other devices in one box while moving-- -- found that answer -- BUT I also saw several people whose drive stopped working suddenly. One got a tip from WD support to unplug adaptor from power strip and into wall socket directly -- This seemed to have solved this for many. Being a study of electrical and electronics I have a suspicion that the current capacity of the strip plug cord wires or strip internals are being overloaded. This will cause a drop in voltage out of the power supply itself, thus low voltage to the drive. One individual re-created the problem by again going back to a loaded strip. No guarantees but worth a try!!
