There are two possibilities :
1. Hardware : Too hot, if the fan does not work well; or bad RAM. But you said the fans work well and "one beep", means hardware is ok.
2. The most possible is virus.
Update your Antivirus and run full scanning.

I experience the same thing and the problem solve after I run online scanning (then found 3 spywares, in fact I have Symantec End Poind in my computer) in:

Run also with another antivirus, you can have it the free ones, example :

If still happened, let me know. Don't rate yet. Otherwise the problem will be closed and we continue the assistance.
Good luck.

If it is just shutting down for no reason while you are working with it, then the first suspect would have to be the memory.
Run a memory diagnostic on the computer ,memtest is a good program for thes and it will let you know very quickly if your memory has problems.

The fact it boots means nothing since the memory etc are not 100% checked, just a quick test and nothing more.

Hope that helps.

My computer trys to turn on but just sits there on and off on and off

Does it show a blue screen? If so you want to disable the automatic restart so you can read the error message.
To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Try to restore your machine first to an earlier time by doing system restore on safe mode if you cant log in to the normal windows.

1. After restart keep pressing F8 or keep tapping F8 until Advance Boot Menu appear
2. Use arrow key to navigate then choose Safe Mode
3. Click Start button then choose All Programs
4. Click Accessories then choose System Tools
5. Click System Restore then follow the intruction on the window.

Your computer will automatically restart when system restore is finish

If this doesnt work then you need a Windows CD to reinstall you Windows again.

I have a dell computer inspiron 530, windows vista. I need instructions on how to fix a winsock 10013 error. I have tried researching but this old gramma can't find any info. that she can understand ! ...

To repair and reset the Windows Vista
  1. Click on Start button.
  2. Type Cmd in the Start Search text box.
  3. Press Ctrl-Shift-Enter keyboard shortcut to run Command Prompt as Administrator. Allow elevation request.
  4. Type netsh winsock reset in the Command Prompt shell, and then press the Enter key.
  5. Restart the computer.
What netsh winsock reset command does are it resets Winsock Catalog to a clean state or default configuration. It removes all Winsock LSP (Layered Service Providers) previously installed, including the potential malfunctioned LSP that causes loss of network packets transmission failure. So all previously-installed LSPs must be reinstalled. This command does not affect Winsock Name Space Provider entries.

Cant find a product key for windows vista

Hello Friend, Actually your problem is beneficial to Dell. Actually Dell never provide product key of OS given by company to any Desktop or Laptop it is taken by PC automatically. The OS DVD provided by Dell is actually back up DVD made after installation of OS on our system such that it automatically take the product key whereas if you use that OS DVD to install in other PC then they want CD key because that PCs are not register with Dell.
Hope this will clear your problem and if you want then lot of product keys are available on net.Best of Luck...

Restart in safe mode (press f8 when it starts up and choose safe mode with networking)

Then go into command prompt
Then type in "net user ACCOUNTNAME NEWPASSWORD"
it should look like this:
net user Bob's PC Pa$$w0rd123

That will reset the password to a default setting, and you should be able to gain access again.

Battery problem????

Check the power plan of your operating system!

blow a can of air into the fan and sink assembly if you think its a problem due to over heating..
Take out the battery and clean its terminals on the battery and the in the laptop too..

If its restarting automatically then go to My computer>right click> properties> advanced> repair/recovery > uncheck the box for automatic restart and do a clean boot..

Computer will not start

Choose Last Known Good Configuration. If that doesn't work, choose Safe Mode and then do a system restore to roll back your PC.

System is restarting

sounds like over heating...check your fans, specifically the CPU fan to make sure they are running. if they are, reboot your computer into the BIOS (generally by tapping the delete key while the initial POST screen shows) and find the screen that tells you the running temp.
let us know the temp that it is running at.
