Check the following: Memory Stick is inserted in correct position and orientation in camcorder. Try re-inserting several times. Write-protect tab is switched to allow writing to memory stick (on back of memory stick) Memory Stick is formatted in FAT file system (this should already be done except if memory stick has been formatted in a computer in a different format) Memory Stick is not over the maximum capacity memory stick of the camcorder. Memory Stick is not full. Memory Stick is clean and dry. The dcr-trv320 is a 2000 yr. model and came with a 4mb capacity stick and can probably only use up to a 128mb capacity stick or possibly 256mb. Most memory sticks you can buy today are 1GB, 4GB, 8GB etc. memory stick pro duo. and are probably incompatible. E-Bay has some of the old memory sticks like the 128mb for sale. There is a slight possibility that static electricity discharge zapped the stick. Try another memory stick or try the stick in another device.
It is not possible to record the videos onto a Memory Stick Duo or Pro Duo, as this Camcorder DCRDVD305 does not support video recording onto the Memory Stick.
To record the videos you may use 8cm DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW.
I read the manual in .pdf format off of the sony.uk site.
It does appear that it's not that hard to do what you did according to the manual, and you tried to use several memory sticks pro duo from Sony.
So, I do not understand why it would give you this error, unless the camcorder is faulty, somehow.
I would take it back to the place you bought it, and ask for an exchange for the same item after explaining what happened to you.
I am so sorry my friend, you have same problem as we all have, no memory bigger that 1 gb will work in cameras older than 3 years, I think yours is yes? the camera simply does not see those, sad I know, but that is how it is, I know because I have 3, yes 3 adaptors and 3 big mem bits here, and my money is lost. There is a firmware update available for your Camcorder at this link http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-list.pl?mdl=MHSCM1&SelectOS=7 Download and follow the site instructions for installing it. The high capacity memory stick PRO is probably beyond the current camera's capacity to recognize and the firmware update should fix it.
did you already formated your memort stick? try to remove your memory card from your camcorder and insert it again. look for the settings on your camcorder. it might cause the problem. hope that helps!
if you are using the handy cam just look at the specs on the manual to determine what memory card is compatible. based on your info it is unlikely that the camera even supports 4gig of memory. You should try the smaller sony memory stick up to 2gb only and it should work. good luck
