Question about Apple iPod nano

Ipod is Not Being Recognized by Computer

Hello, I have a 4 gb. Ipod nano 2nd gen.
While away, i thought i lost my usb cord, and i tried using one to my other mp3 player (stupidly) because it ran out of battery. Sadly, it didnt charge my ipod at all, and when i tried to connect it after i found the proper cord, it only charged it. On top of that, the computer (Dell w/ Windows Vista) says that the device has malfunctioned. How can I get my Ipod to appear in both "My Computer" and Itunes?

First ipod cables only work on ipod.
Second if you bent the connections (even just one) so that it is not connecting inside your ipod you will need to get that fixed.
You should reboot your computer and try again first though.

Try put the cord in a diffrent port or slot besides the one you normally use. Some times they short out. Mines did. Or you could use someone else computer.

Clearing 2nd gen ipod of all data

What you need to do is download itunes. when you plug in the ipod to your computer via usb it should read your ipod, then you highlight the ipods name and click restore to factory (but first try to get all the music off if you want it.

Apple Ipod Nano 1st Gen

first of all
what operating system are you useing?
is this the first time its been pluged in?
I know that you need your service packs 1 and 2
you need to go to your device manager and uninstall it but dont unplug or reboot at this point. go to add hardware and install it there you might have to tell it it's a mass storage device.
it might be formated wrong.

What version of iTunes and Windows are you using? If you update your iTunes, it might recognize the driver.
