Your description is somewhat vague. Possibly you are getting the 'alarm' sound as you type. If this is the case the typewriter could have the spellcheck function turned on. Or possibly your right and left margin are set too close to each other causing the alarm to sound.

HOW DO YOU TURN OFF THE ALARM?

couple of reasons you could have the alarm... maybe no print wheel is in the typewriter OR you could have broken wire in the flex cable harness underneath the carriage assembly.

Striker Sticking When Erasing. Brother ML100 Typewriter

Sounds like the gears you cleaned may be dry and sticking, spray a little WD40. or that gear on the right side is still out of time. I think there is a spring clutch in the gear train which may be bad. One secret to repairs is to perform the same actions that you want the typewriter to do by hand and watch closely. You may see something not movving, or moving slow that under power you won't see.

Oil the chrome rod that the carrier slides on, when they get sticky they slow the printed down and tells board it has not come homein time. Also will give you different margins every time....Good luck

A couple things to check, lift the cover and make sure there is nothing obstructing the carrier from moving completely to the left. Also make sure your correction tape is not interfering with the print wheel. Try taking both the ribbon and correction tape out and see if the machine will go to ready. If this does not help let me know and we can check a couple other things, But try that first. John
