This may work, i was told it by an Epson engineer, it resets the printers internal memory, switch it off, unplug it for 20 seconds, plug it back in, when you switch it on by the green button press and hold it down for 10 seconds this should wipe it memory, worked on other problems for me and friends.

This is deffinately due to catridge circuit problem.Canon suggest that we have to replace emptied catridges with new genuine canon catridge they dont suggest refilling and also not give any support for refilling catridges. So you can replace catridge with new one.
This Happens due to weakining of catridge circuit portion or may long period printer not in use.
If you not want to replace catridges i will give you the possible hints it may fix refilled catridges.
1.Clean the catridge circuit portion with soft cloth, care must be taken that there is no smudge or ink traces on catridge circuit.
2.Clean the ciruit of printer catridge placing box present inside the printer .wipe out the any sumdge or ink traces.
Then re install the catridges. give the print if it shows error press resume button continuosly. I think it will fix your problem.
If it is not solution is replace the catridge with new one.
Try to check the level of your ink in your color catridge maybe is running low or empty then if its empty then remove the catridge then replace another color catridge full of ink then run your printer again. If you successfully installed new ink catridge then it will automatically reset the level of your ink monitor to full.
CHANGE THE TONER!
TROUBLE BOILS DOWN TO SAME THING BUT!
IF IT IS AN HP OR A REBUILT NON-HP CARTRIDGE THE E-PROM ON THE CARTRIDGE IS BAD OR DROPPED OFF AND THE PRINTER CAN NOT READ IT.
WHAT YOU COULD DO IS TRY TO TAKE THE E-PROM FROM YOU OLD TONER (IF YOU STILL HAVE IT AROUND AND GLUE IT IN PLACE OF YOUR NEW CARTRIDGES E-PROM
After spending many hours on this issue I resolved by doing the following: 1. Followed directions re: getting Win 7 BJC-85 driver on my PC 2. Went into PRINTER PROPERTIES for the BJC-85 3. Selected PAPER/QUALITY tab 4. Selected ADVANCED 5. Under PRINTER FEATURES select PHOTO 6. Click OK
My Epson rx700 will not recognise any generic ink catridges and won't allow me to accept any of them like it used to. It used to offer the facility to accept generic catridges but suddenly has decided not to accept any.
