Usually it is because of dirt in the keyboard ... your key board is removable... you will find instructions on the ... be carefule when removing it as it is connected by one or two thin plastic ribbon cables ... after removing it you can turn it upside down and tap it to reomove the dirt ...the other method is to use compressed air cans for computers...

Key board won't work but touch screen does ?

Hi Bob,

My name is Pradeep and I work for Dell's Social Media Team.

Please turn off the system and unplug only the power cable. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Plug in the power cable.
Please clean the system air vents using canned air.
Here are the steps:
1.Check the vents on the computer to see if they are covered with dust and not allowing heat and air to pass through.
2.Turn off the System.
3.Unplug the AC Adapter.
4.Remove the Battery.
5.Use Compressed Air to blow the dust out of the vents
Please boot the system to BIOS and check if keyboard is working. Please let us know if you are able use on-screen keyboard is working fine.

Laptop touchpad not working

Directly above the touch pad is a button (sometimes has a light around it red off, blue on). This button turns the touch pad off and on. Once you press the button, give the laptop a second or two to recognize the device and then try it. If this does not work look under device manager, to see if there is anything next to your mouse devices. If there is an explation point or anything you probably need to reload the drivers. If there is a red X, this will normally indicate the touch pad has been disconnected physically. If you are somewhat hardware savy, remove the keyboard and check/reconnect the touch pad.

Hope this helps.

p.s. no I did not give instructions on how to take apart the computer or remove the keyboard. If you do not know how to do this, I would not recomend that you do.
