If the fuel filter is not clogged and stopping fuel from going to the carburetor then leave it installed until it is full of particulates and restricting fuel flow.

Sounds like the carburetor needs a good ultrasonic cleaning as old gas will leave behind varnish and gum deposits clogging the carburetor fuel passages up.
It doesn't have a filter, it does have a screen and it's located in the fuel tank. If your bike is carb equipped and has a petcock, take the petcock out and the screen comes with it.
If your bike is fuel injected, you have to take the pump out of the tank.
Replace the spark-plug, check the quality of the fuel(gas that is mixed or was stored more then three months is stale and wont fire correctly) make sure the fuel and air filter not clogged. If there is no change then your problem may be more technical, a nest may be restricting the govenor or you missed something with the carb and there still is debre causing it to stall.
