3 possibilities.
1. The batteries are weak and the charger is working too hard to put juice into the batteries that are not able to take a full charge.
2. The connections for the power supply are bad - acer is known to loosen from the mother-board and short out and perhaps catch fire.
3. The Cooling fan and heat-sink are jammed with dirt, dust and whatever for the last 2 or 3 years and should be taken apart and cleaned.
4. You are using the wrong mother-board or hard-ware drivers - XP or other OS drivers are only Generic and you may have to find the updates and install the proper drivers for your computer and other hard-ware installed in your computer.
Hope this helps.
Restore the factory optimal defaults in Bios...save changes and take a trial again ...if it is still the same ...go to screen savers and take a look at the power saving management and get them all out ...(its possible to have a cause here ) the last thing ...see how you can insert it a heat dispenser...or an extra external cooler...Probably it is the place where you keep and work it ....its too hot ..and it do not handle the heat ..
Its a good thing that the protection of the Cpu is working ..this is safe way to use it ...but its annoying when you are working something important and suddenly it remembers that its too hot and shuts down..:D
