Actually, the MT3418 came with Vista Home Premium. The problem you're going to have is looking around and finding all the drivers to make the insides all work correctly. According to Gateway there's no way to do that in such a way that everything will work. Personally I think they're full of it. I just installed gOS and my only deal now is getting the wireless drivers to work. Everything else seems happy so far.

Hi Jolito

You don't say which Operating System you use, so my answer will be presented in general, Windows terms. If yours is a non-Windows Operating System and my answer seems to be of some relevance to you, please consider applying the logic and principles involved here to your own Operating System and, if in doubt, please feel free to add a Comment or Clarification to this Question. Please include information about the Operating System. Doing so helps us makes faster, more accurate and more assured Remote Diagnostics leading to better quality and more useful Advice, Answers, Guidelines , How-Tos and Solutions.

The term "Drivers" is meaningless without associating it with an Operating System and a specific item of Hardware.

There is no such thing as a "Driver". There are only XP VGA LAN Drivers, Vista VGA Drivers or Windows7 Wireless Audio Drivers, Mac OSX Tiger WLAN Drivers. Mac OSX Leopard Epson Sx100 Printer Drivers, Mac OSX Lion Webcam Drivers, Linux Red Hat Midi Controller Drivers, Linux Ubuntu Media Player Drivers, etc.
Although drivers seem to mainly be about hardware, they are actually mainly about software. The Driver does not physically control the Motherboard's Devices. The BIOS and the Operating System do. What the Driver does is (just like a human interpreter for a guest who speaks a different language from his host), introduce the Device to the Operating System and help them to communicate with one another, with the Driver taking instructions from both and passing it back and forth between them.

So when one mentions Drivers, one must also mention the Operating System it will be talking to. In order for that to be possible, the 2 must share a common language. If they do not, then the role of 'interpreter' is impossible, because, then neither the Driver nor the Device will be able to understand what the Operating System is saying.

I have downgraded the OS of my Toshiba Satellite A205-S7468 from Windows Vista to Windows XP SP3. System is having trouble identifying the proper Audio Driver. On Windows Vista, the Audio Driver is...

You can try with an automatic driver tool, yes of course, it could be installed manually, but to avoid the hassles, you better opt for a driver utility.
Download and install this software (Device Doctor Free). Once it's installed, run the program and click "Begin Scan", wait for few seconds until the scan completes and search the scan result for realtek, if so click it, the direct download page will open up, download and install the driver, that should work without any more hassles.

If you have problem, let me know.
Good luck.

I cannot reinstall windows back onto a working h.drive? PLS.HELP!

Your hard drive went bad. It seems that the kernel and some sectors on it unable to accept any data for installation. Try to use a Partition Magic software before installing Windows operating system by doing the format manually. Then you can install you Windows operating system that you want. Thank you.

I have a thinkpad t20 and a 570e, both with

The IBM Recovery Disk that comes with those laptops is set up for Windows 2000, not Windows XP Pro. The answer is No, you cannot use the IBM Recovery Disk for them, if you install Windows XP Pro.

However! You will have a recovery disk, because you will have the Full Installation disk for Each laptop. Windows XP Pro Full Installation Disk.

(Microsoft Users License states "One genuine copy of Windows per One computer" That means you need Two, genuine copies of Microsoft Windows XP Pro)

Can I install Windows Xp professional at this machine

The answer is a tricky one.

Yes, you can defintely install XP on this machine.

However, some features and drivers may not work on Windows XP. So while you'll have a great machine, some of the features outlined that make it a "entertainment" machine may not function correctly. Going to the HP website I see that most drivers do have XP counterparts for this item.

Installation win xp in toshiba sattelite

ok my friend its not that easy but its always possible

fisrt just to know why u r unable to install xp because u have the HARD DISK SATA

and windows xp wont detect it because there are no definitions for SATA HDD.

so what should we do to fix this problem, you will know that by following these steps:

at the begining you need a floppy disk and floppy disk drive (i know thats not available in the new laptops, so u might need to buy one).

ok now we will need to download the SATA definitions from here:
http://www.4shared.com/file/37736514/7da1991f/raid138.html
and save it in the floppy disk (dont forget to unzip the file first).

now lets start the windows installation process (as usual).
u before you get to load the windows file there will be a prompt (in the buttom of the screen) asking you (press F6 if u need to install a third party...........) now press F6 quickly.
you will have a new screen with three options (S= specify, enter= continue or F3= exit).
now lets press S.
you will have a prompt asking you to (insert the labeled disk manufacturer ................).
lets insert the floppy disk now. and press enter
and when its asking you to select definition, select RAID driver.
and when its asking you about windows logo testing press yes.
and after finishing the definition process it will detect the HDD.
now continue installing windows as usual

enjoy XP (i know its a long story but its worth it :)

sure let me know what happened with u and for any other problems plz let me know

cheers
