Makes copies but does not print

Check the data cable between the computer and the printer, make sure each end is connected to the correct port. Note USB plugs will fit into network sockets but won't function of course. Check the the computer recognises the printer is installed and connected. Check that you only have ONE installation of the printer. If you have multiple copies, the simplest fix is power off the printer - delete ALL installations of the printer - reboot the computer - power on the printer and let it reinstall. Try the test page and if still no good try connecting it to a friends computer. If it works there, you have faults in your i/o ports, if not - replace the printer

I use 3rd party ink and why my color ink light up at my printer pixma mp 287

This will either be because your printer is having trouble recognising the cartridges or warning of low ink because the cartridges have been refilled. Connect a computer to the printer and it will hopefully give you more info.

If your printer cannot recognise the cartridges try wiping the contacts on the front of the cartridges and re-installing. If your printer still doesn't recognise the ink cartridges then sadly they will need replacing.

If it is just a low ink warning then carry on printing untill the printer thinks the cartridges are empty and prevents you from printing. You can them get around this message by pressing the stop/reset/resume button for 5 seconds and continue printing. More information on this can be found here: http://www.refreshcartridges.co.uk/igloo/the-infamous-canon-resumestopreset-button/

Hope this helps.

I connected my laptop with my dell A 920 and on my computer when i look to add printer it is not listed. It does nto print at all, i guess it is not recognised

You have to install the printer drivers. Click here to download the driver for DELL A920. Select the driver file according to your Operating System (e.g. Windows XP). After downloading the file, just double click it and follow the on-screen instruction. This will install the printer and you would be able to print.

Good Luck!
Hope this helps!

Switching from copy to print from computer

If you look carefully at the printer you'll note that there is no button for "Print" and the reason for this is that all the other functions are for using the printer as if it wasn't connected, nor needed a computer.

All your printing functions that DO use a computer require you to interact with the printer via the computer.

In short, to use the printer from the computer you'll need to make sure you've installed the correct drivers (see your installation CD or the Canon website) and then plug the printer in using a USB cable connection to your computer. If the computer recognises the printer you'll then be able to print.

In a nutshell if your printer is connected and drivers installed properly it doesn't matter what your printer has selected on the printers own control panel, you just print :)

Hope that helps.

All in One Scanner/Printer problems

Go to this link and type "cannot communicate with scanner" in the search box. Click Search. Then select the "ERROR: Cannot communicate with scanner" link. You will see several things to try to correct your problem. Usually, this error shows up if there is another USB device connected which prevents the computer from "seeing" the scanner, even though it can print without problem. So do try to disconnect any other USB device (except mouse or keyboard) and reboot the system.
