When I start the program all I get is a yellow screen with a cursor. The audio plays and moving the cursor and clicking will activate functions but I have no idea what is being activated. I was told by Mattel's software support that it was an issue with DirectX 9.0c, my video card (VIA/SG3) and the Barbie program. I have ordered a new video card but have not received it yet. Does that sound reasonable or could there be other issues. I've checked this site and there seem to be others with exactly the same problem?
That sounds reasonable. Programs do strange things when they can't display the correct graphics. For example: Portal wouldn't run on my computer because my graphics card was not able to use DirectX 9.0.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

It sounds like you need to "Disconnect" instead of Logging off.
Move your cursor to the top middle of the screen and a menu will drop down. Click on the X at the top right. You will be warned that your programs will continue to run, which is what you want, so press OK to disconnect.

You can capture a screen shot with the mouse cursor there by pressing the Prt Scr key. It should be on the top right hand side of the keyboard. Create the screen you want to capture and then hit that key, then open Paint which you will find in Start menu>All Programs>Accessories and then paint. Once you have opened paint up click on paste on the top left hand side and you will see your screen shot appear in the paint window. To save the picture click on the little floppy disk icon at the very top left of the paint window.

Not sure if this will help as my cards would scan but I was having problems with the game shutting down when we tried to "photograph" her outfits, fashions not transfering to other sections of the game and not saving the cards we had scanned. I'm running windows xp on a new computer and had to change my daughters user account to administrator (from limited). The game is now working brilliantly and is everything it promised to be. Still it's very frustration that I had to spend 3 hours today solving this myself instead of reading a simple 1 liner on the Mattel website FAQ's!!!
Click on "Start" then rest over "All programs", then move your cursor towards the top of the first list and select "Windows catalog" and search for the applications there. If you pass Validation, you should have no problem downloading all of the updated MS S/W you like there. Good luck.
First thing to check is to make sure your computer is compatible with the system requirements of the Barbie Girl. This sounds as if the Barbie Girl program is very old and you are using it on a very new computer. I've had this happen to me on vista with old windows 95 programs. Check your system requirements for that software, if it was designed for windows 95 it might not work. There might be a way to get it working in a compatibility mode which I can help you with, but first make sure your sys reqs are good. What version of windows?
it seems as if you need to select your appiorate sound device
