Hi are you putting rechargable batterys in or off the shelf batterys.
The problem being batterys off the shelf will never show full charge because as soon as you switch the camera on this will take loads of power out of the battery as the lcd display really takes alot out of the battery and so does taking a picture with the lcd screen on.
I know this is why they made these cameras but normal batterys are just not up to the job.
If you have brought rechargable batterys then make sure they have had a full charge also if the batterys have been used a few times its best to let them go totally flat then do full charge.

The best batterys to buy are ones that a recomended for your camera as these will give out more power than regular batterys would.

The best batterys to buy that are not rechargable is the lithium batterys as these last ten times longer than normal battery some batterys will only let you take between 5 and 10 pictures before they are totally flat so make sure you only buy top quality batterys or you will be spending small fortune

When you said new batteries, did you mean a fully charged battery? If so, it could be that your batteries are nat capable of holding a full charge. Otherwise, my suggestion would be to Call the manufacturer for tips or help.

Minolta dimage g400 camera...cannot get the lens to close

Your problem is likely due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may require professional repair.

hi anjali,
i think the problem must be with the replacement of the CCD chip. they must have must some damage to the cam with out their knowledge. but the thing is you cant even claim that with Sony. you must have took it right next day.
that too if you are in india you cant expect the service people to get these things fixed so soon. you must have been attentive.

I had similar problem with my Minolta camera. There is no way to fight with them. DO NOT DEAL WITH SONY ANYMORE, my best answer. It looks like Sony has special position on support own products. We have to start consumer's protection company against of SONY. Personally, I used to sped more then $10,000 to by Sony's staff, if it works - it works, otherwise you are in trouble if you do not have extended warranty. NEVER BUY SONY!

Camera viewing screen greyed out

If this also shows up on the pictures it could be a defective Sony CCD issue. If so, Sony will fix your Minolta camera for free (with free shipping) regardless of warranty. You need to do this before March 31, 2008 so get going! See this link:

The Dimage models that Sony is accepting for the recall repair are:
Dimage 7HI, 7I, A1, Xi, F300, XT, X20, S414.
