Look at the capacitor. Does it have 3 terminals or just 2. Some capacitors control the fan and the compressor. The terminal on them will be labeled Com (common), Herm (compressor) and Fan. The wire you are talking about probably goes to the Com terminal. The common terminal may also have the Run wire from the fan and compressor attached. Let me know if this doesn't help and I'll try to get a picture to help explain it.

I have a Ruud Air Conditioner and need to install a new capacitor, but I forgot how the wires were on the old one. Can you help me in tellilng me which wire goes where.

There should be 3 terminals on the capacitor marked "C" "F" and "H".
A wire from the high voltage contactor goes to the "C".
Another wire from "C" goes to the compressor.
These wires are usually red.
The "F" terminal has a wire going to the fan,usually a brown wire.
The "H" has a wire going to the compressor,usually yellow.
There should be a wiring diagram on the control box cover identifying the terminals,colors and number of wires.

I need to know how to wire up a 4 wire motor to two capacitors. Also, i have a 45 MFD 440 VAC and a 5x370 i need to which one is for the compressor and which one is for the fan?

Each motor, compressor have there own capacitor, The 45uf is for the compressor and the 5uf is for the fan motor. If the motor has two brown wires and a black wire, white/or yellow wire the brown wires go to the capacitor and the other two go to the contactor for power. Black to common side of contactor (black)and the other to the red/or yellow side of contactor.

I Need to know where the wires go from the condenser fan? It has a red wire, abrown wire, a black wire and a green wire. Help Please?

here is a typical way to wire a motor with those colors. without knowing what kind of motor it is I am having to take a guess. Hopefully someone else will post their knowledge and you will be able to take the best advice.
Red=common
Brown= capacitor
Black = Hot
Green=ground

Red will go on one side of the motor capacitor and will have a jumper wire over to the contactor
Brown will be all by itself on the other side of the capacitor
Black will be on the contactor terminal opposite of the Red jumper wire
Green is ground and will be grounded to the case

I hope this helps in some manner.

How do I wire a new condensor fan motor to the new capacitor? The old capacitor is longer and it has 3 terminals. the new capacitor is much smaller and oval. It has 2 terminals. the fan motor has 3 wires,...

Before attempting any of these recommendations, First disconnect all the power sources and check your wiring diagrams on the motor and condensing unit.
On the old capacitor if you look on the top near each of the three terminals. Are they marked, fan - C - herm? If they are that is a dual capacitor and that needs to stay because that is also your compressor capacitor.
The Red wire from the conductor is Run and it's connected to C on the old capacitor.
Follow the Yellow wire and see if it goes to the S or start terminal on the compressor, if it does then that is the Start wire for your compressor and it connects to herm on the capacitor.
For the fan motor a lot of times the wiring connections are printed on the motor label.
Check the label, Purple should be run and connect to C on the old capacitor.
Black should be Common and it connects to the opposite side of the contactor as the Red wire. If the Red wire connects to T1 then the Black wire connects to T2.
The Brown wire shoud be the start wire on the fan motor and it connects to the Fan terminal on the old capacitor.
Now if you want to use the new fan capacitor. Take the Purple wire from the motor and look for any marks (red paint or a dash) on or beside the terminals on the new capacitor. If there is an identifying mark then connect the Purple wire to that terminal, if no marks you can connect it to either terminal. Then you need a jumper wire from C on the old capacitor to the purple side of the new capacitor. Then take the brown wire and connect it to opposite terminal of the new capacitor.

The outside fan motor (OFM) will not turn off.

it sounds like your fan connector is on the same side of the contactor where your high voltage enters you should have 3 wires 1 wire for each pole of the contactor and 1 wire off the capacitor does the compressor run all the time too? try turning the power switch off on your indoor air handler / gas furnace if the power goes off the fan goes off then it could be low voltage wiring

48DD0284 model I am wanting a part number for a Time delay relay. Dont know how to look up

I looked up information and the unit is obsolete. I also did not see a time delay in the diagram with the original unit. It must have been added later. Post me back and let me know where it goes and what numbers it has on it.

Replace contactor

On single phase your incoming power lines go to L-1 & L-2, the lines to the compressor go to T-1 & T-2. With A/C current it does not matter which one goes to which side as long as the line goes to the L side and the compressor power lines go to the T side. As long as the coil voltage is correct any contactor will replace the original.
