Question about Canon PowerShot A530 Digital Camera

Memory card error

My Canon started getting the 'memory card error' message when I was recently on vacation and was working on and off, but now has completely stopped working. The camera is about 9 months old, and has new batteries, I even tried a new internal 1220 3V battery. I've tried 3 different SD cards, all which work fine in another digital camera we have. I've tried switching the lock on and off. I can't re-format the memory card in the camera because that option is somehow disabled. I tried cleaning the internal contacts with a piece of paper, and it looks like all the pins are aligned correctly. It seems like it would cost more to get this serviced than to buy another camera... Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Memory card error message on my Cannnon A520 camera. It does not allow me to take pictures. Any information on how to fix this problem?

If you can connect the sd card to your pc and format it as fat.
you might need to get a cardreader first, but if the camera has a hardware side problem wich is causeing this then it might not be worth the money.

First of all on the leads if you want to clean it use an eraser, those rubber thingy so that it will not actually damage the leads on the memory card, if you have an adapter then try hooking it on an adapter and reformat it. If that doesnt help that means the card is broken/damaged already

Hi,

Did you try reformatting the card in an external card reader?

It's a lost cause. The A540 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them. You need to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Can't help with the camera- sounds like it has a fault.

The photos, however, should be recoverable by putting the memory card into a card reader on a computer.

Memory card error message

Cards are coming in different formats and it might be possible that you brought a card which is not suitable or functional with your camera. The other reason could be that we are having options to lock our memory card in digital camera and you might have taken out your earlier card without unlocking it. The system might be broken from inside and this could be a reason that you are still getting a message that memory card is locked. It seems possible based on problem you are sharing.

These are almost all the photos I took on my camera since a long time now. Could anybody pleeeese help me in retrieving my photos and recordings?

Memory card error

Try a smaller memory card size . I was trying to install a 4gb card and the guy at Kmart told me to try a 1gb card and that fixed the locked card error . No where in the instruction book did it address this problem.

Memory card not reading in canon a75

So as not to spoil your vacation, go buy yourself a new compact flash card locally. They should sell them anywhere electronics are sold, including WalMart, etc. See if you can get this new card to work in your camera. If so, then you can work on trying to get your current CF to work, by trying to format it in the camera. If you can't get a new CF to work in the camera, then you likely damaged either the pins in the CF socket in the camera, or some switch that is pushed when the card is inserted (to tell the camera there is a card in it). It is unlikely you will be able to have this fixed during your vacation, unfortunately.
