Question about Sony KP-46WT500 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Hi Slinterio... You helped me a few days back with a Sony HS30 Convergance issue. I have one more question for you if you would noy mind? After looking at the resistors, I can not find any that look bad. I think I should be looking at the 1/4 watt ones. There are also some, like, 1 watt ones. They look ok as well. Have not taken the D board out yet. How should I approach this resistor issue? Should I order a few just to be safe. Or just order the STK's or what do you think exactly? Is it the small ones or the larger ones that I should be looking at? Thank you so much, John

Awesome, thank you for the reply.

If it were you and you seen no signs of burnt or blown resistors, would you just replace the STK's and then see what happened?

I finally got around to replacing those STK's.

No Change. Don't know what to try next. Many people, based on photos told me to replace the STK's.

The following url has a bunch of pics I took after I replaced the STK's.

Would you mind taking a look and let me know what you think?

    Here is the link:

    Thank you,

    Thanks a ton...

Check all the smaller 1/8 or 1/4 watt resistors or the larger ones?

John the resistors for your model are all 4.7ohm most are 1/2 watt the other few are 1/16 watt but they are all 4.7ohm rated flameproof.

John check the resistors by lifting 1 leg from circuit and checking them also there are four pico fuses right next to the ICs which may be open Check those as well

Convergance issue on one AV input only

This is not a convergence problem in the traditional sense as it would effect all inputs not just one. I would be looking at the video switching IC as the defective part. I'll look up your model to try to get you more details. Are you going to attempt the repair yourself?

Its not matter of service code only. You also need service data to fix it. But question is, how data is being corrupted? It seems hardware failure in your TV set.

Sony HS30 Convergance Issue

The STK ICs are located on the D board their locations are IC801 and IC 802 they are both STK392-560 and you will only have to remove the D board. Usually only 1 or 2 resistors go bad right next to the ICs heatsink. You can get replacements at the following link and they include installation instruction plus free tech support heres the link.
