The firing order is ( 1 - 3 - 7 - 2 - 6 - 5 - 4 - 8 )

The distributor rotor turns COUNTERCLOCKWISE

The marked # 1 position on the distrubutor cap faces to the REAR and slightly towards the drivers side

The engine cylinders / spark plug locations are numbered :

firewall

4 - 8

3 - 7

2 - 6

1 - 5

front

If someone has altered the disstributer, pull #1 plug, put finger over hole, turn engine over until compression on that cyl, line up timing marks (ball park only) and rotor will be pointing at the correct terminal for #1 cylinder plug wire connection, in the cap.

Am working on a 91 f-150 just did a head gasket, and now cannot get it to fire, acts like its 180* out,but all tests show all marks are lining up,

#1 cylinder at top dead center, on compression stroke for sure? Then rotor in distributor pointing at #1 wire? Firing order, and direction of rotation all checked?

Spark Plug Wire Sequence

Your firing order is 1-5-3-6-2-4 and your #1 is the cap terminal the 3 O'clock from the front so that would be the one towards the driver's fender and the rotor rotates clock wise. So the next post would go to the #5 cylinder. Hope this helps friend. Keep me posted, be glad to help you get your truck running 100%.
