Question about E-Machines eMachines Monitor E15T4

1 Answer

Monitor can only hold image for 3 sec before going black

After the monitor is plugged into the wall, I plug it into the computer and it immediately turns on like it should, but it only stays on for about 3 seconds before it goes to a black screen. When the black screen comes up the blue power light is still on. After that I must turn the monitor off and then on again for it to repeat this process. Would this be a problem with the power supply or the control unit?

Power supply caps will be the first things to inspect.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

What causes a Syncmaster 2253LW monitor to start ok and immediately fade.

The monitor may be failing. Here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your monitor on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.
Good luck.

Displaying only 2 secs

Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check)
* Turn off the monitor
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
* Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background. If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. Get it replaced.

this works for Dell monitors with a similar problem: shut down, turn off monitor and pc, turn off at wall socket, and remove power plugs from wall socket. wait about 30 seconds. plug back in, turn on, and all should be well? I have used this 3 times on a Dell PC with a Viewsonic monitor.

The monitor turns on and off every 1-3 sec, how do I fix it?

Hi dcalderon128;

I'd cover your basics first. Try checking the monitor cables at both ends, make sure they are tightly connected. Next, if the monitor is plugged in to a power strip or surge protector disconnect it and plug it in to the wall directly.

Lastly, if you have more then one computer(including laptops) try plugging your monitor in to another computer.

If any of this solves your problem great!

Your power supply may not be supplying the required electricity to keep your monitor on. Try plugging your monitor in a different electricity source. Your CPU may be drawing much power from the source and not enough is supplied to the monitor. You may plug the monitor directly to the UPS (uninterrupted power supply) if the cable end allows it.

My computer shuts down after 3 secs

Try to separate the power cord of your monitor from your system or maybe if your using UPS(uninterrupted power supply) directly plug the UPS to the wall outlet. either you can use pretty voltage regulator to the regulate the AC power.
if not solve the problem try to examine the your system power supply.
