Note: *In general, fine threads and needles are used for sewing thin fabrics, and thicker threads and needles are used for sewing heavy fabrics, Always test thread and needle size on a small piece of fabric which will be used for actual sewing. *When sewing stretch, very fine fabrics and synthetics, use a Stretch-needle. Turn the balance wheel towards you until the needle is in its highest position. 2. Loosen the needle clamp screw by turning its top edge towards you. Remove the needle from the clamp. 3. Place the new needle into the needle clamp with it s flat side facing away from you. Push the needle up into needle clamp as far as possible. 4. Tighten the needle clamp screw firmly. --------- TO SELECT A SUITABLE NEEDLE:-- A number indicating the size of needle is marked on the stem. The higher the number, the thicker the needle.

Singer CG500 Needle hits the needle plate. Needle was replaced. Verified needle in correctly. Tried hand wheel - still hits. Machine has yet to be used!!

Unless you need all the bells and whistles to sew get you a pre-1930 treadle or handcrank. I have 2 electric Singers, 1947 model 66 and 1948 201-2 both with attachments. Also I have 1903 Singer handcrank made in Scotland. The plastic new one just don't have the ability to hang in there .... All my pre 1930 Singers sew... I love them!

Hi Bobby B,

Do you just need new sewing machine needles? There are so many types it is dizzying. Go to a place like Hancocks, Joann's or Hobby Lobby. They will be able to help you. Nearly every type of fabric has a needle that will work the best with it. Good Luck! The needle most used is a 80/12. That is the standard needle.

The rear needle on my EA 605 broke and I replaced it with one I use on my Juki . This is not working. Can you advise?

You need a BLx1 type needle for the Baby Lock EA605. This is a different type of needle than on most other sergers (even other BabyLocks). The only Jukis that use this needle are MO-102, MO-103, MO-104 & MO-134. I'd guess your Juki is not in that list.

Several sites have the appropriate needle. This is one vendor who has them in stock: .

I hope this helps.

You can get a replacement manual for your machine from the Singer site, but they cost around $15.
