TV will not power up. I found and replaced a blown fuse. The instant the power is plugged in the new fuse snaps. Is it worth replacing the main pc board? If so, any suggestions on where to find parts? Sylvania LC195SL9A Serial # J27878619 July 2008

Watching the TV and heard a "pop", it went dead. Opened up the back and found a blown 4A 125V fuse. Replaced fuse and plugged in TV. Fuse blew instantly when I plugged in the TV. Sylvania...

The power suply unit may be dead......if the fuse blows instantly it means that the main input is short.
possible parts damaged :the diodes from the mains, the power tranzistor and the ic from the primary part and other components around them.
First unplug the tv, unload the mains capacitor (using a light bulb) check all the diodes from the rectifing bridge, check for any shortened semiconductors or blow resistors.

If the main amp section does not have it's own fuses, then the fuse might have blown, because the amp has gone. However I think it is highly likely that you have taken out the main amp, especially if it is a single IC that does all the work. You should try and determine if the amp section is getting power before replacing it.

MY VP42HDTV WILL NOT DO NOTHING WHEN I PLUG IT IN WHAT COULD IT BE.

Hi if you plug it in at the mains and switch it on and you get nothing not even the standby light then this points to either a fuse been blown so check the fuse in the plug failing that it will mean getting a new power board fitted, now if the telly is more than say 2 years old i would say its not worth getting fixed as the chances are you will replace the power board and then you will start having problems with the inverter, soyou could end up throwing money down the drain.

if its less than 2 years old and its totally dead check the fuse in the plug change it anyway and then give it a try but if its still totally dead then this points to either the fuse been blown in the telly this is a little clear glass fuse located where the mains cable plugs into the main power board, if this fuse is not blown also then the whole power board will need replacing.

let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Watching program, heard a pop snap and unit lost all power. Even the vizio logo on front panel is dead.

Seems like a filter capacitor has arced and blown a fuse or a couple of fuses. Open the back cover and check the main fuses. If you replace with new fuses and the TV keeps blowing the fuses then replace the bridge rectifier and main filter capacitor. A local repair shop could take care of this very quickly for you. Its not an expensive repair...

Found 1 of the 2 ac supply ( 8amp) fuses blown on the main pwr. supply. Replaced fuse and good so far. Looked over the ps for damaged components, none found. Checked current with ampmeter with tv on, showing 3amps. Cheers

Panasonic plasma hdtv will not power on--no blinking LED, simply no LED. Other objects plugged into same surge protector are fine; no evidence or suggestion of a power surge.

The power supply board itself maybe the main problem inside the TV. Or, it maybe something simple like a blown fuse. Replacement fuses can be found at Radio Shack or some other electronic supply store.
If it turns out the TV keeps blowing fuses, the main power supply may need to be replaced. You can find replacements at a good price at Shopjimmy.com

Instantly blows the 5 amp fuse next to the power cord plug.

You have a short in the power supply. Look at the regulator and or rectifier diodes. These are all on th primary side of the SMPS (switched mode power supply) the secondary side if shorted shouldn't cause a blown fuse at all.

Blown fuse

Sounds like a problem in the transformer (a short) possibly visible as surface burn marks on the transformer coils. This can sometimes be fixed, but is not usually worth it for a small transformer, but easily replaced. Also check that there is not a short where the power cord connects to the workings of the tv, maybe a loose connection or some debris. Hope this helps :)

Nothing works

The fact the set blows up the correct fuse is because it has a short ahead in the circuit,it could be one of the diodes(4) that is shorted,if one of these guys is bad all of them should be replaced with the exact replacement, ahead of them it should be a regulator and he is bad (shorted) it could have taken the diodes and the main fuse. The cause might have been a power surge. If you are familiar with tv service you can check the regulator and the diodes before you put in a new fuse,if you are not too familiar be safe and take the set for an estimate. If you suspect power surge or lighting damage it might not be worth repairing.Let Us know if you need more information.
