TV will not turn on

1. Auto Code Search:
   • Turn on your Sylvania TV.
   • Press and hold the "Code Search" button on your Philips remote until the indicator light stays on.
   • Press the "TV" button on the remote to set it to control the TV.
   • Press the "Power" button repeatedly until the TV turns off.
   • Press the "OK" or "Enter" button to save the code.
2. Manual Code Entry:
   • Find the code for your Sylvania TV in the Philips remote control manual. If you don't have the manual, you may be able to find it on the Philips website.
   • Turn on your Sylvania TV.
   • Press and hold the "Code Search" button on the remote until the indicator light stays on.
   • Enter the code using the number buttons on the remote.
   • Test if the remote now controls your TV. If not, repeat the process with a different code.
3. Try Common Codes:
   • Some common Sylvania TV remote codes for Philips remotes are 0810, 1684, 1886, 2183, 1081, 1172, 1196, and 2049. Try entering these codes manually.

Here is a process to program a Vizio Universal remote. I saved this info to my computer as a text file some time ago. Can't remember where from, so if it works, no credit to me. :-)

Sylvania:10054, 10030, 10171, 11944, 11931

1. Manually turn on the TV.

2. Press and release the TV button.

3. Press and hold the SET button until the LED blinks 2X.

4. Enter your Codes

If the code is accepted, the LED flashes twice after the last digit is entered.

If the LED does not flash twice, repeat Steps 2 through 4 with the next code listed.

5. Point the remote control at the TV and press the POWER button. The TV will turn off.


Vizio Remote Reset


(Use this step if the LED doesn't blink twice after entering the above codes)

1. Press and release the TV button.

2. Press and hold the SET button until the LED blinks 2X.

3. Type 9-8-2, the LED should blink 4X.

4. Now follow the steps above for Programming the TV again.

Comcast uses at least 11 different remote controls. I referred to the manuals listed on their remote control page for instructions on programming the three Comcast-branded remote units:

Comcast Universal Remote (Red OK/Select button)
Sylvania LCD TV codes: 20000, 20035, 20043, 20081, 20593, 21593, 21781
Procedure:

1. Turn on the TV.
   
2. Press the TV button once.
3. Press and hold the Setup button until the TV button blinks twice, then release Setup.
4. Enter a five-digit code from the list. If this is done correctly, the TV button will blink twice. If you enter an invalid code, the TV button will produce one long flash and the remote control will exit the program mode.
5. Aim the remote control at the TV and press the Power button. If you have the correct code, the TV will turn off. If not, repeat steps 2-6 with a different code.

If none of the codes work, you can try the code search procedure:

1. Turn on the TV.
2. Press and hold TV. Press and hold Setup until the TV button light blinks twice, then release Setup.
3. Press 9-9-1. The TV light will blink twice.
4. Press and release the digit 1. The TV key will blink twice. Press the Power key.
   
5. Aim the remote control at the TV. Press CH+ until the TV turns off. You may have to press numerous times until the remote control finds the right code in its library. Stop when the TV turns off.
   
6. When the TV turns off, press Setup once to lock in the code set. The TV light will blink twice.
   

Comcast Universal Remote (Grey OK/Select button)
Sylvania LCD TV codes: 0000, 0035, 0043, 0081, 1781
Procedure:

1. Turn on the TV.
   
2. Press the TV button once.
3. Press and hold the Setup button until the TV button blinks twice, then release Setup.
4. Enter a four-digit code from the list. If this is done correctly, the TV button will blink twice. If you enter an invalid code, the TV button will produce one long flash and the remote control will exit the program mode.
5. Aim the remote control at the TV and press the Power button. If you have the correct code, the TV will turn off. If not, repeat steps 2-6 with a different code.

If none of the codes work, you can try the code search procedure:

1. Turn on the TV.
2. Press and hold TV. Press and hold Setup until the TV button light blinks twice, then release Setup.
3. Press 9-9-1. The TV light will blink twice.
4. Aim the remote control at the TV. Slowly Press Power and TV alternately until the TV turns off. You may have to press numerous times until the remote control finds the right code in its library. Stop when the TV turns off.
   
5. When the TV turns off, press Setup once to lock in the code set. The TV light will blink twice.

MANUALLY ENTERING CODES
1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.) you wish to
program.
2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH/SETUP button on the remote
until the INDICATOR LIGHT lights, then release.
3. Press and release the button for the device you are programming
(TV, VCR, DVD, etc.). For AUX, press AUX then the device button
you are assigning to AUX. The INDICATOR LIGHT will blink then
remain lit.
4. Enter the three or four digit code for your device using the number
buttons in the GE Universal Remote. After your code is entered the
INDICATOR LIGHT will turn off.
5. Aim the remote at the device (TV, VCR, DVD, etc.) and press the
POWER button. Your device should turn off.
Note: If your device does not respond to the first code listed,
repeat steps with the next code. If none of the codes listed for your
device work for your device or your brand is not listed, try the Code
Search method described below.

To program a TV you can use the code search option. You do this by making sure the TV is turned on then point the remote at the TV then press the TV button once, then press and hold down the set button until you see the RED l.e.d light blink twice, then enter the code 991. Next press the power button then the TV button continue doing that until the TV turn off, when it does press the set button. Press the power button and the TV should turn on again.

Until I actually get my hands inside one of these sets, I can only guess that you have a shorted component keeping the power supply from operating. If it weren't for all the Tv's that the *MART stores are selling the would be a lot more TV repair shops go out of business. Generally you don't want anything electronic with that brand name associated with it. Sorry to be so glum.

If its a 4 number code, try 0171

The buzzing sound could be due to either a bad filter capacitor in the power supply or a shorted component further down the line keeping the power supply from running at the correct frequency.

If you have a menu button on the front of the Tv, you could search for an autoprogram or channel search menu and select that. Otherwise a cheap universal remote might be needed. You also want to make sure it is selected to receive antenna and not cable channels.

You probably have a couple of resistors out as well as a shorted D396 Zener Diode that is supposed to keep the voltage regulated at 8.2 Volts DC. With it being a Sylvania brand, it is probably not worth repairing.
