Question about Troy-Bilt Pony Garden Tiller
I have a troy-bilt pony model 130292 type 1139-01 code 82020107 5 HP tiller I'm having trouble reconecting the throttle linkige and the kill switch. It runs strong but at full throttle. I would like to locate a shop manuel for this tiller any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

From what I read you need a new rewind clutch and the spring and cord go into the housing. Briggs is easy to fix. contact me at email@example.com and I can send you what you need or you can send it to me and I will repair it very cheap!! Parts are available at almost any small engine parts place.

When you say there is an oil fill on both sides of the tiller. If you are referring to the engine, then yes it does have two oil holes one on each side that requires the use of Briggs & Stratton SAE 30 oil. If you have filled this up until it's ready to overflow, then you have put too much oil in there. It should only be filled to the mark on the dip stick and no higher. If you did put more in to bring it up above the mark, then that would explain the reason for the blue and white smoke. It's trying to run and give you the power and you have given it too much oil to handle and therefore, causes the sump to dump the rest of the oil up the vent tube to the carburetor and in turn it will **** it back in and try to burn it. Hence, the fouling on the plugs. If this is not the case then you have an issue with piston rings or maybe even the cylinder walls. This motor has 3 rings. The top ring and the second ring are compression rings which aid in easier starts. The last ring is the oil ring which keeps oil from getting pass the other two rings. If that ring is worn you'll have to have a complete new set replaced. Also, if you find this to be true, have a dealer check your cylinder for possible out of round. Hope this doesn't scare you. But with all my years fixing these things, most of the problem is related to the customer and their lack of knowledge about the units.
Now if your referring to the gear box which you may be referring to as a transmission. This unit does not take trans fluid. This unit requires a special lube, more like a gear lube. Contact your nearest Briggs dealer and he will be able to inform you exactly as to what you need. Or contact Troy Bilt dealer, that'll even be better.

It's definitely do-it-yourself in that no special tools or skills are required, but it can be a little tricky. You can see that the the recoil starter is in an assembly which is spot welded onto a metal cover. You have to remove the entire metal cover that includes the recoil starter. There may be 6 to 10 screws to remove to do that. When you get it off you will see a plastic spool that holds the cord. This spool is probably held in place by a couple of metal tabs that are bent down. Bend those tabs up with pliers. Underneath the spool is a spiral spring that provides the recoil. Take careful note of how this all goes together. Buy a new cord (available by the foot at a hardware store) and wrap it around the plastic spool. Use a piece of tape to hold the end of the new cord above the spool so you can thread it through the hole in the metal housing later. Put the spring and the spool in place, then wind the spool to put tension on the spring - about 5 turns in the direction that would push the string out through the hole. Once you have the spring "wound up" remove the tape and thread the end of the cord through the hole. Now bend those metal tabs back down. Put the handle on the cord end (or tie a knot) to keep the spring from pulling the end of the cord back through the hole. Reassemble the rest and you are in business.
