Question about GE Monogram ZDI15C Automatic Icemaker

1 Answer

The ice that comes out of my brand new icemaker smells and taste like mildew. When I make ice with conventional ice cube trays from the tape, I do not have this problem, so it is not my water. Would the plastic hose that runs from my water source to my fridge cause this problem? Should I try replacing the hose with copper tubing??????

You have biologics growing within the water circuit somewhere. Shut off the water valve and remove the hose from the valve and the fridge so you can empty it; make a 2 tbls. bleach per gallon of water solution and clean out the hose by soaking. Retain some of the disinfectant within the hose when re-attaching so that it flows through the rest of the system. I would recommend replacing the filter if yours has one (some do not). Open the valve and make a tray or two of ice, repeat if needed to kill the algea.

the drip pan is usually on top of the compressor or has a draw underneath with a coil to create heat for evaporation of water from the drip pan. Some time a rodent can drown in this location.

Why does the ice from ice maker have an awful smell and taste? Is there a filter that needs to be replaced?

i found that the previous homowners hooked the icemaker to soft water instead of hard water. Once I changed it to hard water, both ice cubes and water tasted fine.

Icemaker in brand new fridge makes ice that tastes like mildew

brand new?OK...first,did you flush the water filter by dispencing 2 pitchers of water through the door.wait, that it.basicly the water in your ice maker is the same water that comes out of your tap.you may find that you dont like the filtered water, there should be a bypass plug that can go in place of the filter.solution wise thats about it.

We just bought a new frigidare refrigerator with a new icemaker installed its been a week and keep dumping the cubes..terrible taste really no smell though.. any suggestions?

Do not use a metal braided line or a vinyl braided line. Get the plastic ice maker tubing and that will fix it. I learned the hard way and now ice taste great.

Strange taste in ice cubes

Did you use new water lines? If you did then clear the icecubes from the tray and use an appliance store cleaning solution to wash it out with. their solution is designed for fridge use and wont leave an after taste......Rinse well...... Also for awsome Ice......Install a large in-line water filter.... Makes mine taste like frozen mountain spring water with no nasty taste or smell. Hope it works for ya!

Very bad tasting/smelling water and ice cubes - Superba KSRS27QAAL05

Since I found that the water itself being fed to the trays and being dispensed was bad. I replace the nylon, reinforced plastice icemaker hose with 1/4" copper supply line. That, along with purging the hopper (getting rid of) any old ice as well as washing the hopper out real good and giving the freezer a general cleaning - seemed to do the trick. No repugnant odor or taste. (I didn't even replace the filter- the cycle is every 6 mos.)

Hope this helps others who may be experiencing this same prob with this type of side by side appliance.

Good luck!
Lou

Freezer burn on ice-cubes

Black mould around the freezer seal is normal if it has built up over a long period of time or has stood in damp environments. Normally hot soapy water can clear this right up. The ice taste would probably be resolved by fitting or changing the water filter, and / or cleaning the ice maker module located at the top of the freezer section and any route that the ice would take. Cleaning solutions for ice makers are available you just might need to call a local engineer for some advice on where to get some in your area. Hope this helps.

Hotpoint HSS25GFP icemaker stopped working

are u sure that model # Is right.. DOnt come up in any of my model data bases Seems like u might of got a bad icemaker.. if the water is coming into the icemaker from the water valve.. icemaker has to have power, to do that... all funtions after that would be controled by the iceaker .. The only other thing i can think of is your refrigerator has to be a certain temp to activate icemaker somewhere around 0 give or take some to be safe
