I have Mac OSX v.10.4.11 and Adobe Reader 9.3.2 is sitting in my Applications folder. I'd like to turn it off for now (short of trashing it and downloading it again later, if necessary). I can also read pdf files with Preview, of course. Thanks.

Sorry. Would you please show the path from User to the plug-in preference to disable? Thanks.

Thanks for the link to the Apple Discussion Forums which I've found to be top notch, of course.

For now, I'm following advice from said Apple Forums to just select any .pdf document, select Preview, click on Change All, and restart. Works really well. I still have Adobe Reader available should I ever need it again. Thanks.

You can disable it's plugin using its "Internet" preference (from an administrator account).

I HAVE AN APPLE POWERBOOK G4 I PURCHASE FROM EBAY IT IS CURRENTLY RUNNING MAC OS 9 ,HOW CAN I UPGRADE TO OSX 10 ?

Hi Bobby
You will need to get an OS X installation DVD. Try eBay.Don't go for anything lower than 10.4 (Tiger)10.5 (Leopard) and 10.6 (Snow Leopard) should run fine on this machine.Don't bother with 10.7 or 10.8

HAVE A MAC G4 THAT I CAN'T INSTALL LEOPARD 10.5.6. HOW DO YOU INSTALL THE OS WITHOUT IT FALLING

Running Leopard on a box that old is not really the optimum thing to do. It's got 64 bit architecture and being a G4 is 32 bit, your box will not take advantage of the speed increase. As a matter of fact, and this is from experience... your machine will slow to a crawl. I wouldn't stick an OS newer than Panther on a box that old. Even Tiger slowed it down to ungodly proportions.

I bought an apple iBook G4 from a local school and i know it was set up for school work only but i was wondering if there was a disk which would wipe out everything and another start up disk that would...

Hi there.

If you don't have the installer disks that came with it when it was first bought, your only option is to a fresh install of a new operating system, leopard or tiger maybe depending on what your ibook can take. If neither of the two can be installed in your ibook (due to technical requirements) , finding a copy of the original OS wont be easy.

Thank you!

Trouble downloading songs from G-3 I phone to powerbook g4

font.f1 {font: 12.0px Helvetica} Thanks for asking your question with Fixya Support. I will be glad to assist you.

If you are experiencing issues with downloading songs from iPhone 3G to your Powerbook G4, there are a few steps you need to check:
Make sure your Mac OS X operating system version is up to date. The most current updates for the current 3 most common Mac OS systems out today: Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger: Mac OS X 10.4.11 (Current version) Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Current version) Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard: Mac OS X 10.6.6 (Current version)
If your present version of Mac OS X does not match the current version update listed above for your system, then click on the Apple menu icon in the upper left corner of your screen and select "About this Mac" to verify. • Then close that window and click on the Apple menu icon once again and select Software Updates andrun the updates.
• Once your Mac OS X has been updated to the most current version, then you will need to visit the link below, then download and install the current version iTunes Link: Download iTunes 10 for Mac (for 10.5 Leopard or higher) Link: Download iTunes 9.2.1 for Mac (for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger or earlier)
• When you have the current version of iTunes on your Powerbook, then commence to connect your iPhone 3G with your Powerbook and sync your iPhone with iTunes.
I am providing these initial steps to you, due to the limited information I have from you regarding your technical issue, but will be glad to assist you further, if you are unable to resolve your issue with these provided steps.
I hope this helps.
Regards,
-Mactectrainer

Error Installing OS X on Mac G4

I would suggest sticking with Tiger. How to reinstall:

I assume you put the Tiger disc in the drive and rebooted while holding C or you changed your startup disc in System Preferences.

As you are clicking through the installation program, look for a "Options" button at the bottom, I believe. Click the button. Look for the "Archive and Install" option. Careful: **DON'T select "Erase and Install" unless you want everything erased off your hard drive.

There is a small risk of data loss when installing the operating system. You should have backups of your important pictures, documents, etc. You should have backups of your home folder. [The free Carbon Copy Cloner can make a copy of your hard drive onto an external hard drive. It can also make a disk image you can save to an external hard drive, if there's other stuff on the drive.]

Select "Archive and Install," which will save your previous OS in a folder and install Tiger. It will not touch your pictures, documents, etc.

After that, you should be good to go. If not, let us know and we'll do our best to help.

*If this info is helpful, please rate my solutions, and recommend me. Thanks! **

I mac g4 kernel panic cant boot from CD to format . got kernel panic after security update. No Driver for this platform

This message indicates that the CD you are attempting to boot from is a release of the Mac OS which is incompatible with this model of Macintosh. I would recommend a retail disk of Tiger or Panther for this vintage Mac.

Hi, I have an IBook G4 running on OSX10 3.9. It doesn't run all

OSX 10.4 Tiger is not an upgrade, it is an update and you will need to buy the operating system. You should be able to pick it up on ebay or what I would do is seek advice on buying it from your local apple store.

I have an old G4 Mac Laptop I want to start using again, no recovery CD and need to reset the username and password because I can't remember them

I do not think there is any shortcut or hack to recover the password. You will need an installer disk, preferably one that has the same OS version as your G4. Tiger is your best option, OS 10.4. The newer Leopard OS 10.5 has a lot of code for Intel based processors rather than the PowerPC. If the G4 has 10.4 installed as far as you remember, you can try these tips:
