Question about Car Audio & Video

I have a Delphi XM radio model Xpress RC. The led backlight has gone out. It started flickering one day and after doing that, went completely black. Is it something I can fix? I'm handy with electronics (assuming I can even get into the radio). It was an expensive radio and is just over one year old. Thanks.

Sir, Usually the LED backlight is built into the LCD these days, So if you have a faulty backlight you may need to to change the LCD altogether. But also keep in mind that LED`s have a VERY long service life nearly 30 to 50 thousand hours, So i am pretty sure that your LED`s are not faulty but there maybe a break in the connection that powers the LED`s. You should Get :) into your radio and find the connections that fo into the LED`s they maybe separate or integrated into the flex cable of the LCD try removing it and cleaning it and re inserting it.

If God is on our side :). This should solve your problem.

I was able to take the unit apart. Not very difficult (lucky). I carefully took off the lcd display. I checked the ribbon cable and the connector. They look fine. I inserted the connector and locked it into place. Still no light. I wish there was a way I could test the display itself. I will probably take it apart again and double check the connector.

if that does not solve the problem then their must be some internal disconnections in the LCD, Those cannot be fixed. In that case changing the whole display will solve the problem.

what this simple mean is that

this is an indication of a sensor error. There is a chance that there is a loose wire connection on the sensor reading is out of range below range .

what you need to do from here is to unscrew the system then trace the loose wire to sensor reading and then fix up the if the flashing light is red it mean that it a red wire that is out of range but if the wire is blue or green the light will indicate the colour of wire that is out of range.

please before you can carry out this function you will have to put OFF source of power supply

than you and thaks for using fixya.

this is a very simple work you did not need any external professional only if you can follow the instruction that was giving to you

but if you did not have the bass tools or the knowledge to apply the instruction you are advice not to carry out the explanation in order not to damage the system totally

Good lock and thanks once again.

The light that illuminates the main portion of my radio has gone out and I am unable to view the screen. is there a fix for this or will I need to purchase a new unit?

You can buy a new LCD from eBay. The problem is cause by the backlight cable breaking because Delphi folds it behind the LCD in manufacturing. If you know how to solder, you can solder a wire in place of the broken flat cable to fix it.

The back light on my Delphi Xpress RC went out.Can that problem be repaired? If so,by whom?Where?Cost?

You can buy a new LCD on ebay and just install it. Or you can solder a new backlight onto the old LCD.

Delphi XpressRC XM Radio backlight problem

Same thing happened to mine until it permanently went dark - no brightness. Problem is with the LCD display that is defective. As this model does not have a separate filament bulb unlike the non color model, it cannot be repaired. Likely too expensive to replace the color LCD display if avalaible. Next one I buy will be a non color version which has separate bulb.

The remote does not turn on the Delphi XM Xpress on car unit

This problem is caused due to the fact that xm has designed there radios to completely shut off all power with the unit therefore the unit once off will not be able to recieve information from the remote. This manufacturing defect was confirmed by the xm representative, they also explained that the company is currently planning to fix this issue on the new 2009 model xpress rc

New Delphi installation over older delphi car kit

Just installed the xpress RC in my Durango, replacing my SKYFi2. Both units are Delphi (all of the newer xpress RC's are made by Audiovox now, but Amazon sent me the Delphi made unit). Everything swapped out with the exception of the 12dc power cord. Had to use the one included in the new unit, plug size that goes in the new cradle for the RC is different. In the new unit I did get two "user guides" in Spanish and none in English (I wish America would adopt one friggin standard language. English) but other than that it was quick and painless.
