Garmin 350 will not locate satellites

My Garmin Nuvi 350 was used in the San Diego, CA area this week, it worked fine getting me to my first destination and failed to track on the roads that I was on near the Barnardo area. After returning, to my home in Memphis, TN, and resetting the Garmin to Tennessee, it is still tracking as if I were in transit to the car rental address put in the system yesterday. The unit is simulating the drive back to downtown San Diego giving directions as I sit at my computer in Tennessee. I have tried several times to reset the unit, with no sucess.

My 350 will sometimes acquire a signal at the beginning of a trip, then quickly lose it and goes into "acquiring satellite" mode and never recovers. It does not help to turn it off and on again. The thing is that up to today, it has been working fine. Any chance the GPS system is being interrupted? Sure seems that way. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Gps singal lost

Often, when your GPS is in a "covered" area ... e.g. inside a building, in a tunnel, under a bridge, amongst / under tall buildings, etc... when there is no open space (directly) between your GPS and the satellites, your GPS will loose its satellite signals. If you're in such locations, try to find some "open space" and wait a bit for the signals to be picked up again.
Another common reason why the GPS doesn't get signals, or doesn't get the signals quickly, is because the "latest" satellite positions (locations) have not been updated in your GPS. If/when you connect your GPS to your computer (e.g. using HOME ) and download the GPS satellite (QuickFix) location information, your GPS will have the most recent locations of the satellites in your vicinity/region. With this information, your GPS can pick up the signals more quickly ... instead of having to search/scan around to find the signals ... which can take a bit more time. While your GPS is searching for the satellite signals, it shows the "signal lost" or "no GPS signal" message.

Will not find city or locations

Hello.

Solution to the problem.

With the right piece of hardware and software, it ispossible to triangulate your location anywhere on earth using satellitenavigation. These gamin devices cansuccessfully guide you from one place to another, or they can simply use theconnection with the satellite to tell you your exact current location. Thelatter function requires you to know how to locate the GPS device using theoptions onscreen.
1 Purchase a GlobalPositioning System (satellite navigation) product. There are manymanufacturers, including TomTom, NavMan and Garmin.2 Turn on the GPS and leave itfor a minute or so as it establishes a connection between the device and thesatellite.
3 Navigate to the"Current Location" option in the "Tools" or"Settings" menu (the exact pathway to this option depends on whichGPS device you have). The satellite signal will now successfully locate yourGPS device.4 Type a ZIP code or placename once you have located your GPS device. The gamin can now successfully guide you to your finaldestinationThanks.

Hi, can't find any reference on my tom tom go 910 to an altimeter function but it is supposed to have one

tap the satellite tab on the main screen (where the satellite bars are) then tap the right hand side where the satellite bars are on that next screen..

thats where mine is located, but it might be different on yours if you moved the location of the satellite bar on the main map page (there is a couple of different options to choose from in the options tab, as to where to locate the satellite bar)

It is located on the mother board, under the keyboard.... It is the size of a quarter.... and may be soldered in on your Satellite M35x series machine.

Won't locate satellites each time you turn it on.

The GPS does not have a line of sight to the satellites. Relative satellite position may vary somewhat through the year as the Earth wobbles on it axis. Reposition the GPS in your vehicle.

Abnormal Powerdown Error Code

Your battery is dead, which is causing the problem with "slow to receive satellites". Normally when you turn off the unit it will remember the last location and time, then the next time you start the unit it already has the time and current location to acquire satellites, but with a dead battery it has to start from scratch. Check the screen and see if it says "Locating Satellites" or "Acquiring Satellites". Locating satellites will take longer. Replace the battery and your problems should go away.

Locating satellite

I have a streetpilot 330c so this may not help you.

After it fails to acquire satellites, my unit asks "Are you Indoors" and "Are you still in North Carolina". If you answer "NO" to "Are you still in STATE", rather than "Acquiring satellite", it will attempt to "Locate satellite" and that seems to do the trick for my unit...

Aquiring satellites

Are you outside with a clear view of the sky? It should find satellites once the unit is turned on. Does it say "Looking for satellites" or "Acquiring satellites"?

If it is "looking for satellites" then it means that the unit have lost all data (time, date, location). If it is "acquiring satellites" then it have date and time, but not location.

Looking for satellites require a longer setup time (could be as much as 15 minutes). Acquiring satellites is much faster (not more than 2 minutes).

Date and time is updated from satellites once the unit gets a satellite lock.
