Question about Olympus Camedia C-5050 Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Have olympus camedia c 5050 will not take pictures

Have olympus camedia c 5050zoom will not take pictures and cannot use lcd monitor except to review pictures recorded by another camera. Every thing else seems to work. Possibly, the issue of not being able to view the scene through the lcd monitor might have the same cause as that of not being able to capture and record the image. The camera was stored without batteries for several months. have installed good batteries and reset factory default settings as required when batteries left out for long period, allthough I might not have done that correctly.

Your response is not a solution but I will answer your questions in the order they were asked. 1. Yes! I was. This camera--like many digital cameras--has no internal memory for pictures, but can use SD, XD. and Smart Media cards. 2. Of course not! It Was designed to work with any one of the above mentiioned cards but gives warning If try to use without one of the cards selected; which is automatic if only one is installed. 3. No! However the fact that my computer allready has the latest software for this camera has absolutely nothing to do with the camera not taking pictures nor anything else the camera is not doing right in shooting or playback modes and when not connected to the computer.. Your last point is a good one, but the camera will not take pictures using the viewfinder either. I thought I stated that. I had read your response previously and while it was amusing, It was of no help. However, there were other reasons I did not respond. It has to do with your response being considered a solution and a change I was attempting to make in my Fixya arrangement and maybe including this question. I haven't had time to work with that camera lately, but I have no plans to do anything but fix with a DIY solutiion of some sort.

    Thanks, John

Are you using a memory card in this camera? Have you tried using it without the card? Have you tried installing a software update? You can download one from manufacture's website.
Otherwise check your settings to make sure the view is on lcd

Can I update firmware on an olympus camedia C5050z camera ?

The latest firmware is v83. (This firmware is only available from Olympus - you'll have to send the camera to Olympus for servicing to get the new firmware. It probably won't be worth the effort however.)

I am getting stripes across my picture when I use my digital camera. How can I fix this problem? I have an Olympus Camedia c-5050 digital zoom

IF the stripes are on the pic and not in the monitor, your CCD is failing. It is made of many horizontal and vertical traces, the Vertical traces usually go and are a thin red line. If the lines are fatter than 1 pixel, then your CCD is exhibiting moisture ingress that is common with this camera and it is not repairable due to parts no longer made unless you want to replace the CCD chip on the daughterboard yourself.

Display not on

The EVOLT E-500 does not have a live view LCD screen so you can see the image you wish to take a picture of. You must use the viewfinder to take images with this camera and only use the LCD to review the images.

As far as to reset the camera back to factory defaults, you need to turn the camera dial to P go to the Menu and on the camera 1 tab right arrow over and then arrow down to custom reset setting and then hit the right arrow highlight reset and press ok it will show reset yes or no highlight yes and press ok this will reset the camera back to its factory settings

Camedia C-5050 zoom won't take pics

Is your memory full? Does the camera attampt to focus when you push the button down 1/2 way? If not the mode dial may be faulty (you are not in picture taking mode) or the shutter button may be faulty (no focus attempt) Try to use the timer button to get the shutter to trip.

LCD Screen Black/Blank. ? ? ?

Perhaps you have quick view turned off in the setup menus. There's no way the CCD is the problem as the camera takes pictures.

Flipped Screen

I sent my camera in to Olympus for repairs. Luckily or not, my camera is practically new so it was still covered under the warranty. Let me preface by saying that I had called the service line and told the tech about my problem and he had never heard of this peculiar predicament, so hopefully this won't occur to other owners of the 5050Zoom. A note on the invoice listed that they changed the LCD monitor and "chem" (not legible enough to figure out). So I don't know why this happened nor how to avoid it. But I must say, when I received my camera, I was so shocked at the condition of the package; one side of the box looked like an accordian. They really don't invest enough in packaging for me to "highly" recommend them, but they did fix it and I guess that's all that matters.

You made the same big mistake I made, we bought an Olympus Digital Camera! I have the same problem with my Olympus C-5050, it's the CCD sensor. Will cost you more than $200, and if your camera is over a year, you pay.
