SOURCE: Onkyo 805 sub hook up problem
Looking at the back of the sr805, there is a second subwoofer output, this one is the preout. 4 rca jacks to the right of the non-preout subwooker. Moved it, and all works now.

SOURCE: listening modes not working??
I am a little hesitant to tell you what this is because sometimes people give bad ratings to an expert when they do not get the answer they want to hear. I will take a chance here and assume you are a reasonable person and tell you what the most likely cause is. I have been reparing these type of receivers for as long as they have been making them, and every time I see this particular problem it is always something on the digital board. This is the board the the optical and coax inputs go into on the back. They also run all the audio thru this board, and when you only get the audio that you have, a problem is going to be found there. There is some good news and some bad news that goes with this, first the good news. Many times (about half), the digital board only needs to have some of the solder reflowed on a few of the IC's and it will return to normal operation. If this is the problem your repair should only cost from $90 to $150 depending on the rates of the shop. Now the bad news, if the board has a couple of bad compnents on it, it will need to be replaced. The reason that is bad news, is because those boards are very expensive, usually over $250 just for the board, if the board is even available. Many of these receivers you can not get the digital board for them. Most all of audio equipment is component level repair and there are not many technicians who can troubleshoot these boards, they are a very difficult task.
I hope this free information was helpful, and if so a "FixYa!" would be the appropriate rating. You do not need to have your receiver fixed in order to give a good rating, only that you are given the correct information.
Let me know if I can be of any more help to you, good luck with your Onkyo.
