Question about Dometic Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a Dometic RM2510. When I light the burner, the freezer part works fine but the refrigerator will not get much below ambient temperature. The same happens when hooked to 120V electrical current. This is inside a Lance slide-on camper.

Inspect the gasket for dirt or debris that could prevent it from sealing. If you find any, remove the large debris, then wash the gasket, using a scrub brush and warm, soapy water.
Check the gasket for cracks or tears that can let cold air escape. If you find any, replace the gasket.
Check the seal: Open the door, insert a dollar bill partway and shut the door on the bill. Try to pull out the bill. You should feel some resistance. Repeat the test at several points around each door. If the bill slips out easily, replace the gasket.

Take care.

    If there is any
    circuit breaker, reset it.

    Check for thermostat problems. It
could be off or won't cool properly
(too warm,). If it can't be fixed with a simple adjustment,
    call a professional.

Check for coil problems. The compressor can
    overheat due to dust
buildup on condenser coils. If so, vacuum the coils.

    The above
are the likely problem and the solution.

    Take care.

This is an ammonia absorption refrigerator. It has no compressor. It works by heating ammonia either from propane or electricity. Ther is niothing wrong with the gasket. This is in an RV.I cannot figure out how the freezer works fine but the refrigerator part won't get past room temp.

it sounds like there is an air flow problem from
the freezer to the refrigerator section. The easiest things to check for
are on the back wall of the freezer look for snowy frost. That
indicates either a defrost issue or a possible evaporator fan issue.
Unfortunately this may be a job for a service company to repair. check
your controls also so that the damper is open, letting air come into
the refrigerator section from the freezer.
Check your damper control in the refrigerator section, might be broken shut.
If ok and works, replace the thermistor in the fridge.

    Take care

Can any make of freezer be used in garage. Told only Beco

Refrigerators are designed to be used inside at typical to normal household temperatures. The problem with refrigerators are if the ambient temperatures drop down below 55 Degrees F Food in freezer will begin to defrost when the temperature in the garage goes below 55 degrees Fahrenheit. The fresh food section may begin to freeze food slightly below this temperature. If you live in an area where the outside ambient temperature does not get below 70 degrees F or 20 degrees C then the refrigerator will work fine but to have it located in an area where temperatures drop well below this you could lose some food. There are heaters that can be adapted to the compressor if used in an unheated area. Hope this helps, Sea Breeze

I use a Dometic RM2193 in my pop-up camper. Can anyone tell me what temperature differential I should be able to acheive on 120VAC, propane and 12VDC? On 120VAC I was getting about a 40 degree fairenheit...

Usually from the Bottom of the refrigerator you should have minimum of 43f or colder than ambient. Should work very close to same on both gas and 110, on Dc it may not cool as good. From your description you may have an issue with ventilation. Cold air needs to flow in through the lower vent and out through the upper, if it cant, cooling efficiency is lost. Adding a fan kit can help on hot days. On gas you may have particles that fell down in the burner. Just take the cover off, take the burner screw out and blow down into burner to clean out. compressor or canned air works fine. If cleaning the burner doesn't improve it enough on gas to match electric you have to make sure your regulator on your rv has enough pressure... the fridges require 11 inches of water column.

Will freezer work in low ambient temperature (i.e. 26'F)? I have a GE refrigerator/freezer (c. 1983) in a cabin which gets winter temps around 25 degrees. I found the freezer contents had melted and then...

The compressors are rated for ambient temp. and most refrigerator compressors are rated for abour 50 degrees F

to answere your question yes the ambient temp is a problem.

And as for the Thawing, the refrigerator will go into defrost every 8 to 10 hrs and turn on the heater inside the freezer for about 30 min.

You can also cause damage to the seal system and the compressor because the oil will become slugish inside the compressor.

In other resarch I found that because of the ambient temp the freon gas (mostly the newer freon's) won't work corectly because they stay in liqued form.

You have a ammonia system, you need to remove the unit and turn upside down for 1 day min! then , clean entire burner area, it may look ok but if not done will not work well.
I am an old ac heater man and know the ammonia gets trapped up top and needs to return to the bottom , I know it works.
