Hi,
Looks like your volume control switch is not working on the left side, you can check it by tapping the knob on the volume control and sound will come out on left side.
The only way to get the sound again is to replace the volume control or pull out the volume control and open it up to clean the contacts in it.

Hope that helps you out!
Thanks for using Fixya!

Voice volume is low compared to background music volume on AVR-2808CI

Could be a number of things.
Most likely your surround sound mode. Some people dont like Dolby. Try to switch to 5 channel stereo.
Other option is to turn the center channel speaker channel volume up. Voices and dialog come from the center channel speaker in Dolby modes. Post back if you need instructions.

My Tchnics Sa-Da10 shuts down on what appears to

Ahh technics. Technics always had overheating problems, trust me. Every since they started, their amps would get so hot they would hurt to touch. The reason the fan is not coming on seams to be something inside the circuit board. I'm sure that technics could fix this. If the fan works out of the receiver, then it must not be the fan. ;P

I would maybe get a computer fan, and just put it on top of the receiver and turn it on, or send it in for fixing. Also, do you have to crank the volume to get the speakers to play at your volume, and does the impeadence match the receiver. Because you may be pushing the receiver too hard.

When using the amp, it alternates between loud and not working when adjusting the volume. How do we fix this?

you might have a "dirty" volume control - with the power off, try twisting the volume control full to the left, full to the right, repeat several times - if this improves the situation then a quick shot of contact cleaner spray into the volume control might fix it for good.

This advice should work for potentiometer-type controls which consist of a metal wiper moving over an arc of carbon-coated material - dirt builds up under the wiper, preventing good contact.

Newer controls using an optical encoder will not be fixed by this method. If your amp volume normally adjusts in "steps" that you can hear, as opposed to continuously and smoothly as you rotate(d) the knob, then you have an encoder control.

My speakers are working, and i can hear them very faint but i cant seem to hear music at full volume

1-try another media(other music source).
2-disconnect your speaker cables and reconnect it again..
3-bring an a contact cleaner from radio shack and apply it over volume control.while you are moving it forward and backward.
also apply some spray in the socket where you plug your speaker jacks

No sound

possible problem will be on the speaker relay ckt. as discussed in onkyo's service bulletin.
"When the speaker relays are activated, the collector of Q231 and Q232 should drop to near 0Vdc. Voltage can be monitored at terminal P6830 and P6832. Q231 supports RL6600, RL6602 and RL6603, where as Q232 supports RL6605 for Zone 2 operation. If the DVC at P6830 collector or its follower terminal is HIGH, it should be an open transistor Q231."

Amplifier is about shot, need to replace IC pack or transistors (whichever it has). Could, remotely, be the speaker lines are installed incorrectly?out of phase. + to +, - to - from amp to speakers. Some amps will protect themselves when this condition occurs till fixed.
