Question about Nikon D40x Digital Camera

My Nikon D40 won't take pictures!

I bought my camera a little less than a year ago from Best Buy full price! I let my twin sister take it to a hair show in Orlando for the weekend and she brought it back today, however, when I turned it on and tried to take a picture it just kept trying to focus and wouldn't take the picture. I then noticed that the flash wouldn't pop open like it usually does. I'm thinking it's going to have something to do with the settings being changed without me knowing but I have no idea how they were set to begin with! I'm in a crappy situation and NEED HELP pleeeeease!

You maybe too close to what you are taking a picture of? Or there are no clear focal points to lock onto. And the d40 won't lock in a focus point preventing it from shooting (by default). There is a way to change the default so the camera will take a picture even if it isn't 100% in focus. That annoyed me when i first got my d40 and it wouldn't take a picture pressing the trigger! Or try to change the focus type and try taking a picture.

Shutter release problem

Hard to say for sure without more detail, but there is a website out there that advertises online quotes for camera repair, and any problem on a D40 comes back with a price of $180. Considering that you can buy D40 bodies on ebay for around $250, it will for sure be less than that.

My Nikon D40 doesn't focus not take pics

If it's under warranty, use the warranty. It takes my D40x about a half second to focus at most. I keep my camera in a dust proof case when not in use. I've had it for 2 years, it still works fine.

Sale Price

Greetings Miff08,

If you purchased it from a Best Buy™ store and it is on sale at Best Buy™, you would need to bring in your receipt to any location to receive a price match. A price match can be made anytime within the 14 day return policy. If it is a price match to another store, then there are certain requirements that must be met. Please contact 1-888-BestBuy for further details on this.

I hope this helps!

Price match

Hey carhis,
Our Best Buy™ stores will price match any local competitors’ sale price as long as the competitor has it in stock and it is not a clearance sale. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,

Upgrade to D60

Hey mcheng,
Since I am assuming you have opened the D40 the store can charge you a 15% restocking fee, but with an exchange they rarely do. Without the restocking fee you would just pay the difference between the two cameras’ prices. Remember the return/exchange period on digital cameras' is 14 days. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Price match with a coupon?

Hey abear1979,
The coupon you have most likely says only valid on any regular priced item, which means if you get the price match done then the coupon cannot be used on that purchase. I hope this help!

Allan

Price match???

Hey ChelleTN,
Our Best Buy™ stores will definitely price match, but they don't price match any internet site other than BestBuy.com.

Faulty nikon d40

I had the same error message, the camera is less then a year old, however, I was taking up to 800 pictires every weekend of my kids soccer games, then a 6 month trip to the Pursian Gulf, that is when it started, I got back home, took it right in, and one year later after a few visits and calls trying to find out where my camera was, I finally got an answer back, they said I needed a new shutter which will cost $300, They said I should just by a new body for $400. What Nikon does is set that error message to pop up at about 35000 shutter releases, and you can't do a thing about it, once they hooked my camera up to thier system the said I had over 36000 shutter releases, where the average person takes 10000 a year and they want you to replace the body every 3 years....so before buying any camera, always check out how many shutter releases you can get when you buy a camera
