The issue in lcd these days is how well there power supplies are made and from what company there taken from hence manufacture. I will include a tip in here os you can see what we are looking for to determine a bad power supply or bad capacitors:

My 32 ilo, will not power on, the red light is on, - e7bdeb9.jpgMore often then ot one of these guys decides to puff up or blow out. These are called electrolytic capacitors. What happens over time is heat and dust, even power surges are evil to these little guys. Over time they just get weaker and weaker until one day your tv does not stay on or just does not turn on. We Americans tend to leave our TV's and equipment plugged into the wall, doing this allows current filtered or not travel threw the unit. This habit over time put allot of wear on the units components. So when tragic things like this happen we never consider to just unplug them or to plug them into a breaker/ or surge suppression device with a switch to turn it on and off. Not only to we waste money on electricity we suffer a tragic episode like you did.

Here is a TIP for you to click on and enjoy:

Its called LCD common problems:

1. Bad capacitors
2. Bad inverter
3. Bad back light

Your case would be number 1 on the most common issue with LCD, even plasma TV's.

Thanks for reading and learning how to repair your tv, I wish you BEST of luck and do hope you get your matter resolved with little out of pocket cost. Unplug the unit for an hour to see if you had a power spike that messed with the system. System will reset when the unit is plugged back in...if thats the problem

If system does not reset, you likely have a Funai or other manufactured iLO (check the UL number on the back of the set for the manufacturer, then go to http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/index.htm). Chinese manufacturers (slave labor) are not known for their quality nor do they install quality components in their tv's. google Capacitor Plague.

Take the unit to your local mom and pop tv repair shop, ask them how many shop hours it would take to trouble shoot a capacitor failure or inverter failure. If they say one hour, which they will then wrap into a repair (it takes less than 30minutes to diagnose said, inclusive of removing the back of the tv), parts should cost you under $100 for a few capacitors to $150 or more for inverter and caps. Specify that you want NO components manufactured in China. Quality manufacturers include Mitsubishi, Vishay (vishay.com) or most any non-chinese manufacturer listed at alliedelec.com.

The cost will be more, but so will the reliability. What you saved buying at Wallmart, you will now spend (and more) in replacing sub-standard components. There is no free lunch.

If ANYONE wants more than an hours time to troubleshoot the caps or inverter...move on to someone reputable.

I just want to say great website. It gave me the confidence to tell the TV repair shop that the problem was probably the capacitors in my ILO 42" LCD TV. He replaced 5 or 6 and I got my TV back in good working order again for around $100. I thought that was a bargin. TV repair shop was excellent getting the TV back in just a few days. Thanks for the help.

FLAT PANEL LCD TVS HAVE POWER SUPPLY FAILURES THAT ARE VERY COMMON. YOU WILL FIND VENTED CAPACITORS THROUGHOUT THE BOARD IN MOST CASES. THAT IS MOST LIKELY THE PROBLEM YOU ARE HAVING.

I have an ilo 32" TV less than 2 yrs old and last night it was fine. Now its on and I can hear the channels but the tv screen is black with hints of color outlining say people. DId a bulb blow?

LCD's don't have bulbs, they have CCFL tubes and they don't burn out. You have a fault in the inverter board that is powering the tubes - you will need to take the tv to a repair shop to have the board replaced.

ILO 32" TV (4 yrs old) seems to have no power. The power light is out (not green or red). We have checked the power chord, etc and that's not the problem..

the problem goes beyond chords. most lightly its the internal power supply that failed, this part is build in such a way that its to much to repair. solution is to replace power supply

Ilo 32 lcd

I have the same issue. Here's a temporary solution, which is what I've been doing for the last couple of weeks, unplug the unit from the wall, just long enough for the red standby light to go out, then plug the unit back up. as soon that the red standby light comes on, press the on button the the remote or the unit. You may have to do this couple of time before it works. Somedays it works on the first try for me and then somedays I have to do it 3 to 4 time. I sure that at some point this will stop working too.
