Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Email issue. Have"archived"(saved)files in a cupl of folders at the ISP's server. These are"compressed". Would like to move these emails as is (i.e. compressed) to a folder(s)on my com- puter. This would be without opening each email & then saving it on my computer. Could then "decom press"/open each email at a later time of choice. Any suggestions how to do this? Thankyou. lzsemail@aol.com.

In what format are these files compressed in? Rar or zip you can just download those files to your computer and extract using a free software called winrar which can be downloaded from winrar.com(Free version)

Dear eagle 338: thanks for initial response. Adt'l Q: How can it be determined what format the files are compressed in? Also: what does the file format "rar" mean? Secondly, the files mentioned are e.g.in two separate folders. One folder has about 350 emails, & so does the other. How do these

folders get "downloaded" from the ISP server to my computer? Thanks again.

Rar is a compressed archive type that is most commonly used. For determining the extension type I am gonna need screenshots of the compressed archives. Downloading is usually done by rightclicking on the archive and clicking save file as . If this does not do the trick then please get me screenshots of the archive so that I can recognize the archive type based on the Icon. Screenshots can be easily taken by using this software called screenhunter(free).

eagle: once again thanks. dont want to seem completely unknowledgeable here, but...how are screenshots of the compressed archives made? will look into your suggestion to use a software

    called "screenhunter(free)".

Assume this is obtainable at: http://www.wisdom.soft.com/downloads/ind....

Is that website reliable, safe, etc.? & how long would it take to download? How much

space does it take up on the harddrive?

The software is absolutely safe. It takes around 6MB on ur drive. Install it. Once thats done hit standby. Then open the location where your folders are and press the F5 key. Click and drag on the area of the screen you wanna capture. The screenshot will be saved to the folder of your choice. Click on the to button on the left hand side of the interface to see into which folder the image is going

How do i stop getting error nomber OX8OOCCCOE when trying to send email?HELP!!!!!!

First of all do all your emails go to the default folders? Also are these folders very full? You can corrupt folders by overfilling. It is best to create a new folder and move e-mails to these folders.
Thanks,

What I do transfer of email files?

When Outlook saves items to your computer, it uses a type of data file called an Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst) (Personal Folders file (.pst): Data file that stores your messages and other items on your computer. You can assign a .pst file to be the default delivery location for e-mail messages. You can use a .pst to organize and back up items for safekeeping.). If you are using a Microsoft Exchange Server account, your items are usually delivered to and saved on the mail server. To allow you to work with your messages even when you cannot connect to the mail server, Outlook offers Offline Folders, which are saved in another type of data file called an Offline Folder file (.ost) (Offline Folder file: The file on your hard disk that contains offline folders. The offline folder file has an .ost extension. You can create it automatically when you set up Outlook or when you first make a folder available offline.) on your computer.

The primary distinctions between the two types of Outlook data files are:

The Outlook .ost files are used only when you have an Exchange Server account and choose to work offline or use Cached Exchange Mode.
The Outlook .pst files are used for POP3 (POP3: A common protocol that is used to retrieve e-mail messages from an Internet e-mail server.), IMAP (IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol): Unlike Internet e-mail protocols such as POP3, IMAP creates folders on a server to store/organize messages for retrieval by other computers. You can read message headers only and select which messages to download.), and HTTP accounts. When you want to create archives or back up your Outlook folders and items on your computer, including Exchange Server accounts, you must create and use additional .pst files.

Exchange 2003 Unable to - An attempt to open the compressed file D:\Mailboxes\Mailbox Database.edb for read / write access failed because it could not be converted to a normal file.

- Stop the Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer service. Run Stop-Service MSExchangeSearch if you are into Shell.

- Browse to where the database files are located on the disk. Along with the database file, you will see a folder with "CatalogData-random string" as its name. Delete this folder, which stores the corrupt index.

- Restart the Microsoft Exchange Search Indexer service. Run Start-Service MSExchangeSearch if you are into Shell.

- Give it a minute and a new folder will be created and a new index will be built.

- If guide on above can't assist you, then you may utilize software for crashed .edb files

554 error messages

Usually, the "reason: 554 mail server permanently rejected message" email is received because the mail server thought your email is spam. If you are trying to send an attachment, that's your problem! Try changing the extension of the attachment by compressing the file in a .Zip archive file.

Easy share email will not connect to server

I wanted to use my ISP' email server, faster and no kodak advertising attached, here's what I did in version 7, now also version 8.
First click on "email" on the left side of the easyshare screen, then click on email settings at the top of the page and make sure that email with attachments is checked.

then go to the easyshare program folder normally at:
C:\Program Files\Kodak\Kodak EasyShare software\bin\ini\VistaEmail.ini

find the file ESAcct.ini and double click it.(you may want to make a copy of it somewhere just in case) in the file you will see:

[ACCOUNT_INFO]
EMAIL=
PW=
enter your ISP's mail server address at the EMAIL entry and your email password if required by your ISP at the PW like so,

[ACCOUNT_INFO]
EMAIL=mail.smtpserver.com
PW=mailpassword

of course these entries have to be YOUR server and password not the examples above. save the ESAcct.ini file.

Now find and double click the VistaEmail.ini file, again you may want to save a copy of it also.
Find the line

SMTPServer=picturecd.kodak.com

and change it to your smtp server address, just like above,

SMTPServer=mail.smtpserver.com

save this file. If easyshare is open you may have to close it (shut down easy share) and re open it.

If you are connected to the internet you should now be sending your photos through your ISP's mail server. No more long delays and no more kodak advertisements with your emailed photos!

Tried to send e-mail error host SMTP could not be found error code ox8oocccod do not understand what that means

It sounds as though you're using Outlook to send email to and from and ISP and not to or from a Microsoft Exchange server. If so, then the following applies.

The error message means that there is a configuration problem with your email account settings. This error usually happens when an error has been made when specifiy the name of the outgoing (SMTP) mail server.

Note: It may be necessary to contact your ISP to obtain their specific mail server information. The standard port number for Incoming mail (POP3) is 110. The standard port number for Outgoing mail (SMTP) is 25.

Here's what you need to do to verify your settings:

1. Contact your ISP to obtain their specific mail server settings.
2. Open Outlook
3. Click on the "Tools" menu item then click on "Account Settings".
4. Make sure you are on the "Email tab" of the account setting dialog box.
5. Double click on the email account that is listed under "Name".
6. The Internet Email Settings dialog box will appear.
7. Look for the heading "Sever Information". Below that heading you will see Incoming and Outgoing Mail Server . Verify the names of your mail servers match the information given to you by your ISP.
8. If your ISP have provided you with port numbers other than those listed in the note above, perform steps 9 to 12. Otherwise proceed to step 13.
9. From the Internet Email Settings dialog box, click on the "More Settings" button.
10. Click on the "Advanced" tab.
11. Change the Incoming and Outgoing mail server ports to match the information provided by your ISP.
12. Click the OK button to save the changes.
13. Click on the "Next" button.
14. Click on the "Finish" button.
15. Click on the "Close" button to colse the account settings.

Outlook will now be configured properly to send and receive Internet Email.

How to manage two different email ids in microsoft outlook?

Considerations Before Accessing Multiple Accounts

Before using Outlook to access more than one email account there are some caveats to this type of access.

• All email will be delivered to one inbox unless another Outlook Data File is created for the account and a rule created to move the message to the data file. If storing all in email in one data file is acceptable then a rule can be created to move the email to a folder to keep accounts separate.

• When creating or replying to an email you need to select which account the email should be sent from. This is accomplished by selecting Accounts in the mail compose windows and selecting the account to use.

Steps for Setting Up an Additional Email Account:

1. Tools
2. Email Accounts
3. Select Add a new email account click Next
4. Select POP3
5. Fill in Your Name
6. Fill in Email address for account
7. Enter User Name for account
8. Enter Password for account - check Remember password if you don’t want to login each time you send and receive email.
9. Enter Incoming Mail Server (POP3) – Information provided by ISP
10. Enter Outgoing Mail Service (SMTP) – Information provided by ISP

If this is all the information the ISP requires then click Test Account Settings to determine if everything is setup correctly. If additional information is required follow the steps below. If Outlook can perform a test send/receive with no errors then you are finished! Click Next and then Finished.

If the test fails, check your settings to make sure everything is entered correctly. Pay close attention to the username and password fields as this is usually where the problem occurs.

Additional Information

If the ISP requires outgoing authentication follow these steps:

1. Click on More Settings
2. Click on Outgoing Server tab
3. Check the box next to My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
4. Make sure the Use same settings as my incoming settings is selected
5. If this is all of the required information click OK and then Test Account Settings

If the ISP requires that Server Port number needs to be changed:

1. Click on More Settings
2. Click Advanced Tab
3. Change the Incoming or Outgoing Port Number to the number provided by ISP
4. Click on OK and then Test Account Settings
