WinTV-HVR-950 works fine with Hauppague software, and although the vendor claims that it should work with Vista Media Center, the Media Center does not recognoze it.

I tried enabling Vista services associated with Media Center, and installed latest drivers from Happauge. The problem persists.

OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium Version 6.0.6001 Service Pack 1 Build 6001
on Acer Aspire 5520-5334 laptop.
Microsoft has posted hotfix for this problem for hybrid tuners (mine is). Did not install: wrong system. Two other Acer users had similar problems but the posted solutions did not work.

To Microsoft credit, the problem was taken up by a Vista professional, and although she was not able to solve it, she succeded to elevate the prolem to Microsoft escalated level professional. I think I will post the solution if one is found since it may apply to other users. I still think that Microsoft hit a sweet spot with all the new features in the Media Center.

Solution: Uninstall Acer Arcade Deluxe, an Acer pre-nstalled media-center type application by Cyberlink.
This is a typical example of why so many Vista users are installing XP on their systems. Even Bill Gates himself expressed dissatisfaction with Vista at a meeting a few weeks ago and spoke about an early release of Microsoft's latest Operating System Windows 7 to solve Vista's issues shooting for early 2009 for it's release. So, if all else fails and it may, downgrade/upgrade to XP (If it ain't broke? Don't fix it!).
