Question about GE Profile PDS20SFSLSS Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

We came home from a weekend away and the freezer was slightly ajar. Everything had defrosted. Additionally, the refrigerator was warm. We closed the freezer and turned the temperature control to the coldest setting on the fridge. Now, more than 12 hours later, a thermometer in the fridge still reads only about 55 degrees farenheit. There are vents below the crisper drawers, just above the freezer in the fridge. I think these are supposed to be blowing cold air. They are not. What's wrong with my fridge??

There is a good chance that your refrigerator has frozen up from the door being left open.

The best and easiest thing to do is to unplug the refrigerator and prop the doors open for 24 hours to melt any ice build-up that may have occurred and then restart the refrigerator.

If the refrigerator still fails to pull down to proper temp, then you will need to dig deeper to find the problem.

We left for the weekend and our freezer door was left ajar. Upon returning, we reset the temp., but the freezer never got below 17 and then it shut off again. Is it a complete loss?

It is possible that an excessive amount of moisture was introduced into the freezer compartment while the door was ajar. If there is excess frosting on the walls or around the door seal, defrost the unit and see if it cools better.

Unplug it now and defrost contact me after you get that done. Because the door was open the refrigerator possibly missed some defrost and the control board is confused. Let me know, Thanks Sea Breeze

Whirlpool Model # GB2SHTXTS00 refrigerator not cooling. it has bottom freezer...coils in the freezer are icing up... I checked the heater, and stat ohmed ok.i ran the service test everything appeared...

Sounds like the defrost timer is not tracking the time properly. The unit needs to defrost once every 6-8 hrs. in order to work. Make sure the inside (evaporator) fan is running ok. If it rund for a few days and then warms up in the refrigerator section (coil iced), then the defrost timer is the culprit.

Freezer working, not making ice; refrigerator not cooling

Look for excessive frost build up in the freezer, there may be a problem with the defrost cycle.

Defrost the fridge, take everything out of freezer and turn off for at least a day, check the drain is clear after defrosted and try again, if it happens again you may need a new defrost heater of timer.

Warm Fridge side

Defrost the fridge freezer overnight. Restart unit. If it starts working you have either had a door ajar or a defrost problem. If it fails to cool down at all then you may still have a defrost problem or a evap fan motor faulty. Most likely outcome is that the unit will work once defrosted for approx three weeks after which the freezer will freeze back up. Most likely cause will be the defrost heaters. Any good tech should be able to help on second failure. Hope this helps.

Freezer was left ajar & now Refrigerator does not work properly

you have ice build up on the evaporator. two ways to cure. first switch off for 24 hours and leave with doors open. second switch off. remove back panel inside freezer and melt ice off with a hair dryer

Freezer and refrigerator run but is not cold

Andeb, couple of things you want to check. Is the fan in the freezer section running? Take the lower back panel off and see if the condensor fan is running as well as the compressor. As long as you tilted it only slightly I would think this is a fan or overload relay problem. Check the things I mentioned and post back...Catriver.
