Your built-in network channels support Gsm 900/1800, you need not to change it. If your handset is locked to a network, you can unlock it using different techniques (means you can use only one sim card); First of all type this *#2640# on the main menu, you'll see the lock code which is in use, but sometimes this doesn't work. After you get the number, note it down and insert a gsm sim card and when you are asked to enter the lock code, enter the code which you just noted. Now your phone is unlocked to any network, but there's one more thing, this will be required to type in every time you change sim cards. So you'll also need to completely change the number. To do this, go to Settings - Security - (Phone Security) - Change access code and change it to whatever you want. That'll be your code until you change it. If in case, the above code doesn't work for you, type *#7780# on the main menu. (note, this will delete all the contents of your phone memory, memory card and sim memory, including messages, contacts, photos, etc.. so please remove them before you proceed). This will unlock and your phone will become as it was manufactured. Your code will also be changed to 12345 (default code). If again, this doesn't work, please visit a mobile repairing shop and ask them to unlock your mobile. They'll use a small box (Ufs box or Jaf box) to unlock your phone using a data cable (not usb cable) through the computer with an unlock software or bbf-5 program. You'll loose nothing, but the only thing is, they'll charge for the service. Your phone will reset to the original settings with the default code 12345. Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

First of all, thanks for the prompt respond. Now please forgive me for not being too clear on my problem. This cell was bought in the US and with T-Mobile. Now i'm in Micronesia and the only network we have here is GSM 900. I tried to use my local sim and the phone said invalid sim. So I went online and purchased an unlock code and unlocked it. Now the phone can load up to main menu with my local sim, showing my contacts on my sim and everthing except one: the network. There is no network. So I read my Manuel and it said that this cell is approved for use on the GSM 850 and 1900 MHz networks. This is why I'm thinking it's a network band issue. Please help...

Well, you should have told me about this in the beginning :-)) i would not write down that much. Yes that's also true about your handset when you say "850/1900 band", but i would like to let you know that this is a dual band/channel mobile means 900/1800 and 850/1900. If it's a real "Nokia" original, there should be no change. Someone can modify it using software, but as you've said, it's unlocked. Anyway, you need to tweak with settings. Well, no need to tell you this and that, but let me assist you to change the channel. Go to Settings -Phone Settings - Network Selection - and select "Automatic", it'll automatically search for the network available and will detect the supported network.
This will fix your problem if there's no firmware problem with you handset.
(I have one same model in my hand right now.).
    Good luck.

Already tried that...didn't work. Searched but no result.

You Last option is to reset to "factory default". Please reset it and reboot the handset. Let's see what will be the result. If this doesn't solve, your final destination will be the mobile repairing shop. Perhaps it's locked using the software, you have to keep in mind that even if you had unlocked the "sim lock", you haven't unlocked the network. But if you haven't tried the code's as I've mentioned above, do so now. Good luck.

I don't think so....it does not support CDMA.So once you have unlocked you can swap with other GSM providers only. There are many unlock providers like Prounlocking.com to unlock your phone permanently.

NOKIA 8800 Network problem

The Nokia 8800 is a tri band phone capable of connecting to GSM 900/1800/1900. This should work in OZ unless there is some sort of restriction imposed by your service provider. Check here for a list of service providers in Australia. They should be able to sort you out with a working sim card at least: http://www.gsmworld.com/roaming/gsminfo/cou_au.shtml
