Having cold start problems 2006 h.d. f350 ,truck is parked in heated garage all night, starts normal in the a.m.,sits outside all day at work, soon as temp falls below 30 F it starts then stalls immediately...

Follow your glowplug wires towards the Firewall. The glowplug wire goes into a Timer which is suppose to be internally regulated by outside Temperature and feedback from the glowplugs.

When you are in Cold weather, the Timer is suppose to keep the glowplugs on longer. When the engine is fully warm and you shut it off, you will notice it starts up like a gas engine. First you want to remove your glowplugs and check them by using Jumper cables and heating them up.

Be careful because they can melt or distort if on too long. I usually pull out 4 at a time because it is a comparison test and when you find the quickest, brightest glowplug you measure the others against it. When the glowplug stays dark or does not heat as quickly it is bad. Remember when it is in the engine the glowplug only has bumps of current coming from the Timer to warm up.

Once you are confident the glowplugs are okay, try starting the truck. Or for good measure, just change the Timer, but it will add to the cost.

As for the engine light, if you mean the "check engine" light, you can get that checked free at Autozone, Oreillys, or Advance. I believe Advance may be better equipped to test the PCM.

I hope my solutions are very helpful to you and thanks for using this service.

Oven glowplug lights but gas will not turn on oven, broiler works fine. have replaced gas valve and circut board

Even though the ignitor (glowplug) is heating up, it more than likely still needs to be replaced. They do become weak over time. An oven gas valve requires a certain amount of current moving through the coil in order to open the plunger. The he circuit goes through the ignitor, and the hotter thee ignitor gets, the more current flows through it. As the ignitor weakens, it does not allow sufficient current through the circuit to open the valve. Replace the ignitor and you'll be baking in time for Thanksgiving. Use caution when installing the ignitor, as they are extremely fragile. Also, do not touch the actual element section of the ignitor when installing it.******Remember to remove power from the range before making this repair.
Good luck, and gobble, gobble.

2005 f350 6L deisel shut off and wont run. will try to start on starting flued. fuel in fuel fillter is full can hear the pump.

You should check the Glowplug Timer. Most likely it is the Timer because the Diesels need the Glowplugs working to start. Then they fire from compression.

So even though the Starting Fluid reached the cylinders and the Fluid has a better Ignition point, it still needs hot Glowplugs.

You can check a few wires on the Glowplugs by using a voltmeter or Test light. Unplug each wire and then turn the key to On and observe if the Tester pulses a few times before your Ready Indicator goes out on the dash. If the Timer is not firing the Glowplug, test the power wire TO the timer. There should be a Relay for it.

You can jump the Power lead to the Timer and let the Timer heat the Glowplugs. Remove the jumper after the "Clicking" stops. Then repeat. Now hit it with a spray of Starting Fluid and see if she will run.

Then backtrack the Power wire to the Relay and see if the Relay is getting power. There could be a fusible link to the Relay that is burned out.

Would be interested to learn what you found. Autozone and Oreillys can sometimes pull up locations for the components they sell.

1999 A4: glow plug replacement...

Its very similar to replacing a spark plug. Unless you have a scheduled maintenance interval you just leave them alone.

If you are having problems you test each glowplug in the following way. Remove the glowplug from the engine. Get car jumper cables and put the negative wire on the casing away from the threads. Touch the positive cable to the top structure of the glowplug causing sparks. This is of course having the battery cables connected to the battery appropriately.

You can melt the glowplug. But if the glowplug resists heating up, resists glowing, it is bad. Just ordinary small gauge wiring will melt. You need jumper cables and even they can get hot. Thats all truckers have done for the big rigs.

I have changed the glow bar and still the Broiler does not light and the gas smell is overbearing. Is there a pilot somewhere for this broiler?

There is no pilot, if you have a glowplug/bar.
Your gas valve should not open if the glowplug is not orange to white hot. Either you have a defective gas manifold on the oven or your heat sensor for the glowplug is shorted closed. Replace the sensor first, most likely candidate.

Gas doesnt ignite. I GET NO HEAT

You probably have a bad, or shattered ignitor called a glowplug. Fairly cheap and easy to replace if you have a mind to do it yourself. Glowplug is located in the bottom right, rear corner of the machine looking from the front, inside a round metal housing.

I am experience stalling, glow plug light always lit even with key off, allreadt read about heats damage to fuel solenoid part help! where is ignition swith located, need truck for work asap! 561-28182653

You have too many digits in the phone#.

I am able to help with part of this. Your glow plug timer should be close to the glow plugs and it is behind the motor on a Ford. You should be able to find it on your Chevy by following the wires from the glowplugs to a plastic box. Even if the ignition relay is stuck on, the glowplug timer should cycle and cutoff.

You should verify with a voltmeter if your glowplugs are still getting juice with the ignition ON longterm AFTER THEY CYCLE or if it is just the dash indicator light thats on. Some glowplugs run below 12volts so don't worry about a low reading.

Check with Autozone or Oreillys for your parts and location. You could have a bad ignition switch, ignition relay, and or timer. The diesel system is wired differently than a gas sytem because diesels use compression for igniton and is switched off differently than a gas motor. You could be getting a glowplug light because it is grounding through the light.
