Question about Acer AL1916W 19" LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Acer monitor suffers power outage; screen shows very dark colors

I have the Acer monitor 1916S and it suffered a power failure at my home and now the screen is very dark and I have to increase the intensity to the max and it still is dark. I can't seen to open the back due to a needed key to get to the electronics. No parts were used to repair it the last time I sent it to the shop while under warranty for same problem. Any suggestions?

There is no key to use for opening the case. Please see the service manuals here:

http://elektrotanya.com/?q=showresult&megnev=ACER megnev2% 20 & = & Category = & AL1916 kat2 = all

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Samsung s42ax-yd01 - No picture / Sound OK problem

Hi,
If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
If your TV, flatscreen, or monitor is more than 5 years old it is more like to have suffered a component failure.
Take it to a repair shop.

What do I do after power outage and monitor will not work?

If the device was plugged in when the outage started and / or when power was restored - it may have suffered a power outage related voltage "spike" (or instantaneous rise in voltage greater than it is designed to handle).

Unplug it for 5 - 10 minutes and reconnect. If it fails to function you may need repairs or replacement. Try a different monitor on the computer before condemning it - it may be a problem with the computer's video card instead.

The color stay dark on the screen

I am assuming audio is fine, no picture.

Either the power supply has some bad capacitors in the 24 volt section that supplies the inverter board, or the inverter board has some bad capacitors.

You can confirm this with a flashlight held at an angle to the screen up close, you will see the screen image darkly.

It is also possible both boards suffer from cold solder joints- which just need to be reflowed with a small amount of fresh solder to get it the old solder to flow again.

If no picture and no sound, power supply board is likely the culprit with bad capacitors, a blown fuse, or bad solder joints.

I have an Acer AL1916W A monitor. I had my system running when we suffered 3 power outages in a row. Now, my monitor will power up, but I only get a black screen and the power button pulsates from green...

First make sure that the OS boots, u can check this with another monitor since it is rare case that a monitor goes down.

If the OS boots then try checking the power cable from Monitor to CPU.

If it doesn't work take the monitor to a hardware service centre.

Raymarine E120, after 4h on display went dark in

blubaju, probably cold-cathode-fluorescent-lamp backlight failure! if unit dosen't have electro-luminescent style backlighting. All LCD panels require WHITE light to see what is on the screen!!! Is same common problem that computer (pc) lcd monitors suffer from!!! I suspect that if your unit has CCFL's, that the SMPS power supply or CCFlamp INVERTER circuit has a problem common to ALL LCD monitors. I should think that any BIG TIME tv/monitor repair shop could examine the printed circuit boards and effect a repair for you! Just mention that you think it suffers from the BLACK SCREEN of DEATH syndrome!!! Also mention that to RAYMARINE!!! when you call them and **** them out!! 12fixlouie .5hr nrth/wst of Windy City Rate this on fixya if this msg helpful??

Monitor L17AMTN flashes WinXP desktop, then blanks.

dmellman, Before you open it up, try this! With fully booted pc and WIN DESKTOP screen up, reconnect the L17AMTN . Have a bright flashlight handy so that when the lcd screen flashes on for 1 second and then goes dark, you will want to check to see if the desktop remains on the screen even though you think it went away. Shine the light 1-2 inches from screen at different angles. Has the desk top completely disappeared or is it still being displayed? Do you know about Cold-Cathode-Fluorescent tubes and their Inverter type power supply? I assume that this unit also has a "lay on floor black box switch-mode-power-supply" that is supposed to supply raw 12v-14v dc to the monitor? This symptom is typical of lcd monitor power supply failure, and or inverter board failure. Not to mention the fact that the CCFT's could be a bit tired from use. YOUTUBE has some videos on taking apart lcd monitors. also do search on web for "bad caps on lcd boards" or "bad caps in lcd monitors". I should think that this Tatung might suffer from swollen cap-itis. get back to me with results of your investigation. Im louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel@aol.com just nrth of Windy City
