Ok, good stuff about the bad caps. HOWEVER, all caps in this unit LOOK pristine! I have just learned about the trick of darkening the room and using an LED flashlight against the monitor. I see the image IS THERE! So, now why is the CCFL turning off right after power up or if a new signal is applied?

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

The back light inverter circuits are not working, it either that it is not receiving the 12~18 vdc from the power supply or the inverter circuits may have bad lamps assemblies, bad inverter transformers, bad transformer driver IC/Transistors. Those are tge things you need to check. I use test lamps to narrow down the problem, without them it will be hard. The LCD driving circuits are working and they rarely fail, it is the back lights the shine the light from the back through the LCD panel to let you see the pictures.

The capacitors can look OK but thet can have high ESR, you will need cap meter taht can also read ESR.

Thsi will have to be troubleshoot down to component level. You may want to look for replacement board but that will not gurranty that you may have bad lamps asemblies.

If you look through my albums, you will see what bad lamps and bad caps with high ESR look like.

@lcjj - did you ever figure out what was wrong with your monitor? I'm having the exact same problem and don't have much more than a multimeter to test things out. Caps look great on visual inspection and i can see the screen doing the flashlight trick. any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I continully receive a message of the screen is not in optimal mode of 1920X1080. I have gone to the screen setttings and have applied this yet I continue to receive the message when I go to play a game....

Your game does not natively run at the same resolution as Windows. Check the video/graphics settings in the game itself to adjust the resolution to 1920x1080.
Note that increasing the resolution to this, will drastically increase the load on your graphic card.

Samsung SyncMaster 2233SW Monitor "Not

The "native" resolution of the monitor is the "optimal" resolution -- it looks best to use this resolution.

So, right-mouse click anywhere on your Windows desktop "wallpaper".
Click Properties.
Click Settings.
Move the "Screen Resolution" slider to the recommended settings.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Goes to black after one second

lcjj, Is unit black and blank screen? or just black screen? do flashlight test after pc boots-up. Can you see images and icons on desktop screen with aid of flashlight?? How old is the unit? Is unit out of warranty? Have you been to YOUTUBE to check-out DIY video clips on troubleshooting and the low cost DIY repairs being done to CCFL back-lit lcd monitors? Your monitor's problem not new one!! Try some of these web sites: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm and www.lcdrepair.us/files/dell_1800fp_power_supply_installation_instructions.pdf and www.badcaps.net and www.lcdparts.net and www.ccfldirect.com and after you finish with that you can start reading the fixya PROFILES of "buddymc" , "budmrtn" , "12fixlouie" In short... you will do one of these four things. 1. DIY refurbishment. 2. Contract out refurbishment work. 3. Trade in unit for new. 4. Do a cash+old swap out with Samsung if they are doing a "just out of warranty" swap for "premature failed" units. Do your test and research first. Then make decision on what to do. Good luck. 12fixlouie
