ABC 33/40 does not broadcast out of Birmingham but rather out of Tuscaloosa. Many suburbs or Birmingham particularly those south of Shades Mountain are not currently serviced well.

Just purchased polaroid TLAC-02255. when i scan for channels on both the tv and converter box it never picks up fox, pbs, or kgw. all channels i could get on my old tv with the converter box. how do i fix...

Not a solution...but an "answer". First, you should call the tech support number and talk to them; but others have posted on this site (and I'm about to) that they're having the same problem (mine won't get cbs or abc stations). I was told, as was another poster on this site, that 'some tvs just don't tune into some stations).

Even though the tvs have built-in ACTS and a NCTS tuner (for analog and hd) they don't always work with external (rabbit ear) antenna.

ANother poster to fixya wrote that she's returning her set to Target...where mine was also purchased. I'm going to ahve to box up ours also and return it, a shame since it was a gift!

Do I need a digtal converter box to pick up local stations via antenna?

Some local broadcasting will still be in analog but this is just jor simple programming such as college stations. To get local programming such as NBC,ABC,CBS etc. you will need to get a converter since the government has mandated all broadcast be in digital to free up air space.

Note that it may be a case by case basis for some smaller areas.

I have a 13' Orion tv, model #TV1326BW with rabbit ear antenna. I have connected everything correctly to the converter box for digital signals. I can pick up all stations except the local CBS affliciate....

I have the same TV & cannot get into the TV menu to program the cable... it was bought secondhand without the original remote. There are no buttons anywhere on the TV itself to bring up the menu & the universal remote's menu option doesn't do it, either... how do I set the channels?

No Signal

Make sure you have a good connection from the antenna to the converter box. Set your TV to channel 3 or 4.
The converter won't improve reception in any way, and it's possible you might need to relocate your antenna or get an exterior antenna hooked up to improve the signal strength.
If you have enough antenna cable, and you're only using rabbit ears, hang them out the window or up on a curtain rod and see if that improves things.
Some people have good luck with the new digital style set-top antennas. I think you'll have best luck, though, with an old roof-top antenna that's set up to feed your converter.
Best of luck to you!

Digital tv tuner Converter box

Your ability to receive stations will be based on the the type of antenna you have. There are three typical types: a Yagi ( It is the traditional type) it is uni directional ; bi--directional; and lastly omnidirectional. Both the Yagi and Bidirectional need to be pointed toward the local ABC affiliate tower to receive signal this may result in loss of others channels at that time. Finally all antennas have a range that they are effective. Check the range of the antenna you have. If you go to www.antennaweb.org they can tell you the proper azimuth for pointing your antenna and they will give you a breakdown of the towers so you can see the specific tower you need to point toward to get ABC and if I remember correctly they give you the distance from your location to the tower.
If you have any questions post a comment to this solution. Hope this helps you.

Don't get ABC or NBC local channels anymore

ATSC tuners ("D/A converters") pick up signals off the air just like old school television. It sounds like you are just not getting a signal of sufficient strength. A weak analog signal looks like a "snowy" picture, which most of us are used to. But, the new digital channels quickly go from a perfect picture to none at all. It's basically all-or-nothing.

Try attaching an antenna to your converter. I know you can buy a new antenna from your local big box electronics store which is labeled "Terrestrial HDTV" or something, but that really doesn't mean anything. You can use any old TV antenna. Even a quality FM antenna (with an F-Pin coax connection) may work just fine.

When setting up the antenna, keep in mind that different channels are transmitted from different towers, in different locations with different strengths. Move the antenna placement and position around (just like grandpa had to do). You may have to make a compromise to get the best signal for your favorite channels.
