Question about Sony VAIO Digital Studio PCV-RX860 PC Desktop

1 Answer

My Sony Vaio PCV-RX860 won't boot and makes a clicking sound.

Whenever the computer is plugged in and turned on, the power button flashes, the lights on the keyboard flash (ie,scroll, num, caps lock), and the tower makes a clicking sound. It also sounds as though the fans in the tower are turning on and off in concert with the flashing and clicking. The entire computer system and its accessories are hooked up to an APC back-up / surge protection box, model Back-UPS ES 350. Any help would be appreciated.

If you bypass the UPS does it do the same thing? The answer to that would actually tell you quite a bit.

It's usual that new desktop PC's have fans sounds and keyboard LED's flashing during booting..There's nothing wrong on that, as long as you can get in to your PC OS.

My Sony vaio pcv-62 desktop will not turn on.. Please tell me why and send a solution to fix the problem.. Thanks

if you get beeping from the PC it is probably video problem. If it won't even turn on, no lights, beeping, or anything, it's either the power source or motherboard. either of the first two = $20-$30. motherboard is $100-$200

You can upgrade the RAM to increase the performance of the Computer. The Computer is shipped with 512MB, PC-2100 DDR RAM and expandable to 1.5GB maximum. Please refer the page # 54 to locate the Memory slots and to install the RAM memory in the Computer. Please use the specific RAM: PC-2100 DDR RAM for best functionality

Problem with Sony Vaio pcv-rx860 (screen goes black at startup)

I would suggest first to try to take one stick of memory out and try to boot up the pc. Sometimes, one or both of the memory sticks can go bad or the memory slot on the motherboard itself can go bad. If that is not the case I would then remove all of the usb connected to the computer and last i would test the power supply.

I can not reset my windows password

This only works if your account isn't already the "Administrator" account. It will work if your account is just an account with administrator rights.
Boot into Safe Mode, log in as Administrator, change your password:
1) Turn off your computer.
2) Turn it back on while repeatedly tapping the "F8" key.
3) Use your arrow keys to select the option to boot to Safe Mode and press Enter.
4) In Safe Mode, log in as the Administrator
5) Open the Control Panel
6) Go to User Accounts
7) Click on your account
8) Click on "Change the password"
