Question about Cameras

1 Answer

Alright Experts! Here's your chance to help a sad, pathetic, technologically-deficient mac user. The issue to resolve is transferring movies from my Panasonic Palmcorder SDR-H60 to my MacBook Pro (purchased new Oct '09). I have connected them to each other expecting the movies to easily move over, but it only recognizes the still photos that have been taken. On my Mac is iMovie '09 version 8.0.6 if that helps. Any solution would be greatly appreciated! I have a bunch of preschool parents depending on your expertise. Thanks in advance!

It is easy. However you are probably gonna need a firewire card. First try it with the USB. COnnect the camcorder to your mac. As you have already seen movies cannot be transferred directly. You have to capture the movies on the your computer using imovie.Below is a PDF that has a detailed tutorial with pictures.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iMovieLesson1.pdf
If it still does not work then you may need to get a firewire card that suits your camcorder. let me know if that is the case so that I can help you find one that suits your camcorder.

Sai.

My problem is that I am not finding the toggle switch to camera mode in iMovie that was referenced in the pdf file you linked to me in your first reply. I do not know what a firewire card is and how that would solve the problem, but I am thinking that this is the way to go. What is it exactly and how does it work with my Panasonic Palmcorder SDR-H60? Thx.

Look under File menu. You should see an option called "import from camera". Use it. Sorry I forgot you were using version 8. Here's a new guide.

A firewire card is one that usually comes with a Mac and you are gonna need a firewire cable to transfer videos your mac. If your camcorder is supported by imovie then you don't need it. Otherwise let me know and I will give you the detailed procedure.

Sounds like you have a permissions issue, first boot in single-user mode and repair permissions.
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck

If that doesn't help, try booting into Safe Mode and see what happens, if it comes up hopefully another restart may solve, if not, you can at least use this as a starting point to try and resolve. Safe Mode will allow you to get around, surf, etc...

Convert flip video on Mac OS to get the best out of your flip camcorders

More and more people are starting to own flip camcorders (flip cameras, flip video camcorders, flip video cameras or whatever you call it) to take videos because they are easy to use, flexible, quick, easy to get and allow you to take videos on the fly with decent quality.

However, regardless of the advantages, flip cameras are born with deficiencies such as incompatibility with mainstream gadgets (iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, PSP, Zune etc.), small screens and very limited editing and so on.
