It really should be able to. The only thing I can think of would be that the board just feels like being picky about what you put in it. Wait... are the chips all the same speed? If not put the slower ones in pair 1 (which I guess is purple) and the higher speed in pair 2. If you have it the other way, sometimes the system won't even out the speeds for all the chips and one chip (or in this case, pair of chips) will overheat because the board forces it to run faster than it should. But if that doesn't work, I really have no choice but to admit defeat, because unless the board is bad (which it isn't, since if you take one pair out, it works) it makes no sense.

Sorry I couldn't help you more, some motherboards are just finicky about what you put in them. I can try fowarding the question to someone who I think should be able to help.

Emachines T5082 Adding 512Mb ram. Getting slot 0 installed slot 1 not installed.

Try swapping the memory in the two slots. It sounds like either one of the memory chips is bad or one of the memory slots is bad.
If you find that one of the slots is bad, then you might try just putting a 1GB Chip in the slot that works.

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,
Dan

Dell Dimension 4600 desktop memory upgrade

well first the mother board needs to be capable of handleing that much memory you can check that by going to the dell website and checking the specs on that model pc or mother board if the bios isn't recognizing it the chances are it won't but take out the 512 stick and just try one of the 1Gig if it does recognize that then try the second stick if it doesn't recognize them both then chances are it can't handle that much memory.

I think you are mixing ram.... Use the same make and module for your ram... when you mix ram, the problem is other ram can be difernt Voltage. some 1.9V, 1.8V, 2.0V, 2.2V to operate. If you have 1.8V and 2.0V the computer won't boot. Hope this helps.

Installing memory

HI 1008 ,
It is very important to know which branded machine you have ; whether it's Dell , HP etc. I would also require to know the model number and whether you have a Desktop machine or a Notebook.

Anyways , here's a generic guide for your help...

Acer Aspire T-180 Memory Upgrade question

Hello, You might be able to add 2GB more. 1GB per slot. You need to get the model # off your motherboard and verify what the maximum amount of memory it will support. 1GB per slot would be 4GB total but some Operating systems will only support 3GB. So some might be wasted if that is the case. You would need to use the same memory type. So if existing is PC2-4300, use the same. Hope this helps.
