Pictures bright on camera LCD and dark on computer

Pictures look bright and perfectly exposed on camera LCD and dark on computer monitor after downloading to computer. I have to brighten them several stops on photoshop! Why is this happening and what can be done? Is there an LCD exposure adjustment? How do you adjust the camera so it allows more light into each shot. Is there a quick push feature? My computer monitor is a Hansol 900P, I am running Windows XP, SP3. I also have Photoshop 7.

You can set the camera's "exposure compensation" to a higher number.

This is on page 38 of your manual...
Using exposure compensation to adjust brightness

In P, M, and Panorama modes, you can adjust exposure compensation before you take

a picture to make your pictures darker or lighter. Only the first picture in Panorama

mode can be adjusted—that adjustment is applied to the remaining pictures.

1 Press to access the exposure compensation setting.

2 Press to decrease or to increase exposure compensation.

An exposure compensation level is shown on the LCD and the image gets darker or lighter.

3 Take the picture when you are satisfied with the exposure compensation level.

Using exposure compensation with exposure bracketing

In P and M modes, you can use exposure compensation (see page38) in conjunction

with exposure bracketing to get the best exposure.

    If the exposure

compensation is set to: And if the exposure bracketing

interval is set to 0.3 steps: Then the exposures

    taken are:

    0.0

    +1.0

    –1.0

    (Set the Exposure Bracketing Interval

    in the Capture + menu.)

    –0.3, 0.0, +0.3

    +0.7, +1.0, +1.3

    –1.3, –1.0, –0.7

You never should use the picture you see on the monitor of the camera. Not one camera has a calibrated screen. And the brightness is changed very easy in the setup menu.
To test if your camera shoots good pictures, select AUTO on the mode dial. Shoot some pictures and look on the PC or just print them.
Your camera has so many settings, that over rule the brightness when you switch to it, like + and - 2 EV setting. But when you chose for A, P, S, or M, the pictures can be to dark or to bright, if you dial in the wrong settings. So don't evaluate the pictures on the monitor. Only use the histogram on your camera to see if you have a correct, to dark or to light picture.

Dell display is dark

Leave the monitor hooked up to the computer with you booted up into windows.Go into the menu on the monitor itself. There should be a button on the monitor itself that will allow you to go into its own menu. From there try to find the brightness and contrast controls and turn them up. If after you turn them up the display stays dark then your monitor is bad and it will need to be replaced.

Dark LCD screen

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)

Dark

It could be a few things, it may be the monitor itself, which naturally has dark picture.
Or by factory default the monitor has low brightness.
Try going into the menu and putting the brightess up.
Most monitors have low brightness by default.
have a happy new year.

Transfer from XTI camera to PC

Seems to be a common problem with the XTi. Some say it's designed to underexpose to avoid washing out the bright parts of scene. Personally I found it a pita. I had to PhotoShop each shot.So I sent it back to the repair facility. They re-calibrated it. Now it works fine.

DSC-S75 - LCD shows better than actual pictures

could be a monitor miscalibration. Sometimes, pictures will be different than what it appears LCD monitor brightness cud be high and PC monitor brightness might be low... Did u try printing some of the dark pictures? if printed photos are different, then its defintely a calibration issue.
