Question about Craftsman 22" Gas Hedge Trimmer

1 Answer

I'm having problems figuring out how to change or repair the string pull on a craftsman 22 inch gas hedge trimmer. It looks to me like you have to remove the clutch. How do you do that?

Remove screws on both sides of plastic housings, remove spark plug, pull off plactic cap on the bottom side of the clutch plate. stick a wooden stick in that hole to keep the crank shaft from turning when you put an adjustabloe wrench on the clutch, unscrew clutch to get other half of housing off to get to the pull rope.

I am looking for a parts schematic for a sears hedge trimmer modle 636.796670 20.3cc engine also has anyone know or a repair for plastic gas tank

An illustrated parts list is readily available at www.searspartsdirect.com . Just input your model number and select model search.

The gas tank is located in the "crankcase" section.

As for gas tank repair, I have tried many times to repair these tanks. I have not been successful, even with the epoxies that are specifically made for it.

Good luck.

did you try the air filter. could be not getting air. And are you sure it is firing. if so try a spray of ether. You can but at auto parts store. but be careful with it. don't use much. If it is firing it will go.
