There are several reasons for a system to boot slowly.
1. Hard disk space is full
2. Temporary files have not been deleted
3. Unused Network shares have not been removed.
4. An over abundance of start up programs. Run ms config to see all the programs that start with Windows. Look at the Startup tab. Be careful not to make changes unless you know what you are doing.
5. Spyware.Malware, and other malicious programs

Dell laptop no boot device available I turn it off then restart and everything boots up

Go to, enter your service tag and look for driver updates. The main ones you're interested in are BIOS updates and Chipset updates. Depending on the age, your CMOS battery could be going out and need to be replaced. They're only about $3 but you have to take the unit apart to replace it. Dell should have a manual that shows you how on the support site. Try the updates first.

Why do I get a blank screen after laptop boots up.

If you get a blank screen it usually indicates a corrupt or missing driver that windows is trying to load. Start the unit in safe mode and see if it completes the boot properly. If it does, just shut down and let it restart. Check the HDD activity Led while booting. If it is still flashing away merrily it may be a windows update being installed which sometimes can take ages. Some people get impatient and think its a fault and power the unit down where it starts the whole process again.

Need to update bios toshiba satellite c660,using ubuntu live dvd, will not boot hard drive, all normal recovery options used up

Hi There,
There are currently no easy ways to update a bios through linux at all - including live cd's. Your best bet is to make a bios update USB stick (or floppy depending on the age of the computer)
Here's a link to those instructions:
Alternatively, speaking from my own experience with a similar situation, you can take the hard drive out, use it in place of the usb stick, boot from it, update your bios, and go from there.

Why the system automatically go to safe mode

If you are using Windows XP then you may have the /safeboot set in the boot.ini file which will force XP to always boot into Safe Mode.
When the system has started, click on Start then Run and type MSCONFIG as the command to run.
Open the Boot.ini page tab and make sure that the /SAFEBOOT option is not selected in the Boot options section of the page.
Save the change and restart Windows and it should start normally.

How do i unlock my laptop

If it takes ages to boot up and switch off, sounds like virus/malware infection.
Boot into safe mode with network support (usually f8 on boot up)
run a good malwate scanner like Malwarebytes(free)
Microsoft also has its Security suite that is free and has windows defender built in.
also CC cleaner is a good program for removing all the rubbish from your pc and for stopping unwanted programs starting up at boot up

Laptop problem

just remove the battery and disconnect the AC adapter.. then press and hold power button for 30 secs... Then power the sys with the battery.. this might fix the issue.. Its recommended to go for a new battery if the Laptop has aged more than a year after purchase...
